Thank you to 16EM and all associated for putting on a great day and for having the balls to start what I believe will be a great series.
I know our team had a fun day and the Suzuki club is looking forward to the next one.
I can't really fault much with the day and found the pit area to be a top idea, it gave us a home base to chill out and prepare for the next track.
I am sure there will be improvements along the way which will make the day even better. If I were to pick at anything I would only say that the access track to get to the start of the events went through track 6 which was a pain at time but I can also see how this would be difficult to avoid.
I havn't competed for probably over 8 years and it was a great event to
jump back into.
Now, is it the afternoon yet.........

Hey Guys great event might have to come a bit better prepared next time the sun is a killer out there.
I'm hoping it will be set up a bit better for spectators it seems hard to get a feel for how challenging the tracks really are, judging by the up close photos i would have thought it was a different event.
But i like the fact that although challenging it seemed like with a capable driver you didnt need the most highly modified truck out there to be competitive although a roll cage looks like a good option for some of these tracks.

Great event! As a spectator I enjoyed being able to see so many courses being driven at once (didn't know where to look sometimes as there was so much going on) and the commentating was great. I think that might not be possible, as the hill is 'shared' with the race track viewing area. We had marquees set up about 15m back from the fence line, and got to see pretty much everything from there. If we wanted a closer look, we got up and went to the fence. All my shots (except a couple) were shot from down near the fence, or a bit back and zoomed in.
Of course as the crowds grow, then it will become trickier to get good shots...
Another bit of feedback; whilst we all had a giggle about the 'rogue tyre', that actually could have been quite serious. Perhaps a rule that two people (i.e. driver and navi) physically handle all tyres from vehicle to hub and back during tyre-changes, and be supervised by a marshal? It's not hard for a 37" to slip out of one person's grip, and down the hill again....

Heaps of really positive comments here and some of which I will probably repeat in this rant but they are deserving of it.
The good stuff
- Wayne & Mark along with Tiny and all the helpers including the various clubs - I cant believe how good a job you did setting up the tracks. I hadnt been out there for 6 weeks or so and the difference was simply amazing in that small amount of time
- The Pitt area was a great idea
- Pitt scrutineering was a good idea
- John from Jmac is a smart selection as scrutineer. I know he freely gives of his own time and although tough, he is consistent
- Removeable bunting poles made course exits a breeze
- Team Suzuki - I cant believe you guys are asking for the results. We all know you won. Awesome driving and smart team work gives us all something to strive for
- As with most 4by events the relaxed atmosphere and comaraderie was most enjoyable
- Bikes were a smart inovation to cover the gaps
- Ricks commentary as always was first class and cleary passionate as a guy that enjoys the sport
- Marshalling in our events was consistent and first class especially considering these guys were all volunteers and many had to pay for the privelege to marshall by joining the CCDA
- the good ol Aussie sense of humor. Where else in the world would you find a guy 1?? plus kg called "Tiny"
- my team mate John John. DX mentioned the old faces in the sport - well they dont come much more experienced than John and although he is a shite teacher , I have still learnt a huge amount from him over the last few years
- our navis who ran their asses off all day in that heat. Just being navi for one event was enough for me
- Our navis, Steve and Adam, who both drove course 3 fautlessly and were only 2 of 6 people all day that managed to do this.
- the TLCC marshalls - Richard who gave up the chance to drive to ensure we had sufficient marshals, and Andrew for maintaing the entry at the Western end as far away from the action as you could get.
Suggestions
The following are not criticisms but suggestions as we would all love to see Mark and Wayne be successful with this event and make some money back for their investment
- The success will depend on how well you market this event so utilise the network you have. get the OL members involved with distribution of flyers in their respective work places. Follow the lead of the Monster trucks with vehicles on display at key local areas e.g Arndell Park shops, Pitt stop, Shell servo etc. Use or make travel ramps to show off the vehicles. Shopping centre displays with videos running. Offer an incentive to competitors to promote the event using their vehicle e.g for ?? amount of tickets they sell at a promo they get free competitor entry
- Spectator viewing is critical - Put a grassed mound top and bottom of the tracks
- You have to get the spectators closer to the action. You only have to watch how everyone at Toperi followed each vehicle along the course to understand how imortant it is for spectators to get as close as possible. You could look at reducing the number of tracks and having a walkway in-between every event with safety rails for roll overs
- Avoid courses that cross the access road at the bottom as this caused time delays getting vehicles onto the tracks
- Put the travel ramp in the spectator area for additional spectator entertainment
- Allow the comp vehicles to queue in "races" down the bottom near event 6 instead of waiting in the pitts. As long as one team member stays with the vehicle then the other can still watch the track they are lining up for.
- Put a toilet near this area at bottom of event 6 for competitors and marshals
- Rope off a area alonside the pits for tow vehicles so that competitors can easily access things like tools for basic repairs, fridge for drinks etc
- keep the website up to date with team entries etc. There were no team updates in the couple of weeks before the event. You guys were busy I know but this is important for future events
- educate JPM on most likely locations for the spectacular photos and ensure they get a good spread of photos for every vehicle. Didnt happen this time.
All up it was an unbelievable effort first up and Mark and Wayne deserve all the accolades they get. Especially when you consider they didnt have the advantage of being able to use natural terrain as all other comps do and had to build the whole thing from scratch.
On behalf of TLCC team members congrats and thanks. Looking forward to the next round.

We have discussed rotating the hill with Eastern Creek and it may be future project, might even get done as part of a proposed re-development of the race circuit. Tiering the hill would be a start but we need a fair amount of time for the grass to grow otherwise there will be way too exposed earth (dust on the race curcuit is a problem as it effect their lap times and is dangerous for the bikes).
Shortly we will getting the competition area spray grassed which help to define the tracks along with reducing dust.
The heat of the day but a pain too. Very few spectator ventured to the top are which also provides some great vantage points and also leads down to the back of courses 5 and 6. Next event (Sat 25th April) is a day nighter beginning at noon and running into the night under lights. A bit cooler and encourage more exploration from the spectators

The team has been penalised but that was nothing compared to the dressing down.
We are having a debrief later this week and that incident is high of the list
The feedback we have received back today has been awesome. Competitors really enjoyed themselves which is great to hear. They also provided us with some great feedback on where we can improve.
The event was kept small as we are learning, it is the first we have done this. The more feedback we get the better we can make future events

we need to build the level of the comp up a little more and prove ourselves both as an event and our sport as a proffesional form of motorsport. When we have done this we will be in a good position to do a lot more in term of more spectator friendly areas. As Wayne has allready mentioned there is scope for the main veiwing area at the bottom of the hill to be re developed.....

short term I don't see this happening but in the future with the correct safety measure in place it may be possible. As you can imagine, dealing with safety requirements at a venue like Eastern Creek means we can't have the action quite as close as you can at somewhere like Toperi but as time goes on we can look at and implement different things to improve this

This was an unfortunate oversight....We have a cunning plan in place for next time
- Put the travel ramp in the spectator area for additional spectator entertainment
The entire top of the hill as well as the western side of the hill was spectator area, but as we can now see this wasn't particularily clear to spectators, this is something we have allready talked about and we have place to rectify this
- Allow the comp vehicles to queue in "races" down the bottom near event 6 instead of waiting in the pitts. As long as one team member stays with the vehicle then the other can still watch the track they are lining up for.

I promised Mark a 5am phone call if the results werent up by now...
I'll contain myself for another couple of hours in deference to the amount of hours both he and Wayne put in prior to the event - I realise that sometimes you just need sleep!
I think we all could work out who came first - but its important for the also-rans to find out where in the pecking order they managed to finish.

* Ian Moroske for his drive on Course 4 The concrete jungle. Ians team mate (The Mad Rocky) was knocked back during scruitineering so Ian opted to run solo while the rocky was away getting repairs. Driving on his own Ian was one of the few trucks to reach 100 points on that stage, awesome effort for Ian and the little LJ
*Team Bong Bong, after the 'crash' in their first round the spent hours repairing Dennys truck and come back to finish 3rd

Our intention was to use different colours but we could not get it in time
For what it is it's surprisingly expensive, we have found a good supplier now. We also tried to use the bunting sparingly as it looks terrible in photos and video
