quick question for all you fellas in the know we have a 97 lux with the ECOTEC motor in it do you's reckon that the 2.8 diesel snorkel will restrict the air flow to much (i am guessing yes ha ha) or are we gunna have to make a custom 3 " snorkel for it. i would like it if the standard snorkel would work but i don't want any restrictions.
(and we are getting @ 450-550 km out of standard tank with 33'' muddies)
i under stand the importance of cooling the oil after having a mental 5L commy and frying boxes. as for the snorkel if it works and runs fine leave it (well thats what my old man always says) me on the other hand would mod it open it up to the same size as the throttle body if you want no restrictions you will have to also increase the area of the air filter to complete the no restrictions idea. but that ones not all that necessary
mate i am running the ecotec motor in my 90 twin cab and the snorkel does not restrict it one bit just leave as it is.Also regarding overheating i had the original 3 core diesel radiator re-cored by aussie dessert cooler radiators in melb when i done the conversion 6 years ago and have not had one overheating problem, also running air-cond and running a 16 '' thermo, economy is good with 400 ks to tank around town 500 highway driving with 33 atz mickeys and diff ratio is 4.88 and auto 4L60E
mental1 wrote:yeah ok been looking at a few sites cheapest front cut i found for a lexus was $2000, and upwards of $3000 not to mention adaptors for the transfer case and all the other bits so close to probably more then $3500 best case scenario. why, when i would do it for less then half that and still have plenty of grunt. 20L/100km 300-350km a tank seems quiet steep. thats if there running the 70 ltr tank. for the price of the front cut i could buy 5 commys and have plenty of parts. not to mention there easy to work on and easy to program. so heres to your lexus idea
Why are you programming the como ecu, as far as i know its not as simple as plugging in a laptop and changing all the maps.
I agree to a point the como motor is easier to work on, but you shouldnt need to work on a stock motor anyway, nor should you need spare parts haha
Front cuts or motor and loom's come up cheaper than that, you just need to get off the couch and look
Let me know how much it costs all up to put the como motor in haha.
either or theyll both be an upgrade.
Good luck

And wandered off up the road under its own steam this arvo (or is that smoke off them thare tires )
ok all running now wiring wasnt to dificult exaust was simple them marks adaptors make it easy for positioning the motor. used the commy fuel tank mounted up under the tray. runs like a dream, accelerates great pushed it up some hils in local area to try get it hot temp stayed normal bloody good conversion seems to be good on fuel also. not ot mention quieter then the bloody diesel. have to thank me old man for his help and good ideas along the way. oh yeah and for letting me do the conversion in his front yard. and by the time i paid for everything then sold bits and pieces of the left over commy it cost me $1300 i think thats very reasonable. like to see the lexus conversion done that chea p
