Edit:3y alternator upgrade and electronic dizzy

Been reading that the 3y alternator is a joke and am looking at maybe going with thermo fans, dual batteries (for fridge) and stereo. Am just wondering what's easy enough to fit without extensive work. I can easily get a new bracket fabbed up from my brother just the wiring I guess is the problem.

Ps: I got to page 12 in search and gave up.

Edit: Was considering upgrading the dizzy on this car aswell and have been reading that the 4y came with an electronic dizzy with external igniter. Where can these be had (google doesn't help) and do they still use the standard coil?

What is your stock alternator? I'll guess it's only 60A or so.

Whatever you go with, wiring won't be hard. If you can physically make it fit and get a belt onto it then you have no worries.

If you want the cheap option, I think you will find that a VN-VR or so commodore alternator will fit with minimal stuffing around, maybe a washer or two as shims, maybe a tiny bit of grinding but nothing much. The plug will be different so get the correct plug as well. This assumes you want to spend $40 and not hundreds and just get a used one from a self-serve wrecker. You will get 85A (there may be some 75A ones as well, you can check easily and avoid these ones).

It should be pretty obvious how to rewire it to suit the bosch one.

If you currently have an externally regulated alternator that is okay too, you will get rid of the external regulator and some wires; it is not hard.
