Handyvtip for 80 series owners

Post by jackson.baker »

Just thought I'd let you know if your ever looking to fit a double Cardin or double uni joint in front tailshaft that a 97 hili dualcab rear 2 pce shaft bolts straight into 80 series front justsplit the hilix one near the centre bearing and the piece with the double uni bolts straight in. Will save you money if your thinking of doin this

nice to know the model. I asked all 4x4 wrekers in newey about that and i got a blank look.

ended up getting one made for 550 which i thought was ok, given a second hand wrekers shaft would probably cost a few hundred.

Whould that be a 2wd 97 hilux dualcab or 4wd 97 hilux dualcab

I think they came out as a 2wd version But i could be wrong

By the way handy tip if only the mods whould put this in the bible to make it easyer to find in future

Is this for a lifted 80 and if so how big is your lift, Cheers.

As for finding later if you have posted a comment just do a search for Author and put in your username. will bring up all your old posts. But yes bible would be a good idea.

I would think that any 2 piece shaft would work from 89-97 then single or dual cab.

probably find them pretty easy as hilux owners often ditch the 2 piece for a 1 piece to get rid of the center bearing issues.

of course you could always spend 520 on a part-time kit. Hubs included.

Got this in mine with a 5 inch lift its perfect, more go, less fuel and solves the problem

what model hilux? i went to the wreckers today and all the 97 ones he had had no double cardon joint he had a 98 one with a double cardon joint but it was 100mm longer than my 100 series front shaft.

60 series are too short.

would it be possible to get either a 60 series and get the tube lengthened? or say a prado shaft has a double cardon joint and get it shortened?

the 2 prices i got for modding my shaft was $1000 and $550
