Duel battery systems

Post by RN »

I obtained a small 12 volt battery which I have considered mounting in the Mav to act as a power supply for the accessories ie radio, cb. I have run the battery down whilst listening to the radio whilst working in the garden. The radio really drains the sucker over hours so it would be good to have the accessories running off the second battery.

Can't seem to find a duel battery system on ebay. Do they exist there, or am I just searching under the wrong search perimeters.

Are there any DIY Tandy, Jaycar systems out there?

EDIT...found this. 'second battery' under search assisted.
There is a start. Cheers.

"Duel" batteries fight.

Two batteries in one system are "dual" batteries. Did you try Googling that? ;)

Not that spelling really matters. :finger:

yea, you read my mind!! anytime someone says 'duel' i think of two knights in armour waving swords around - thats why i clicked into this - wanted to see some sword action.
duel battery, duel fuel

On a more serious note you probably don't want to be running a battery much below 50% as it will in time reduce the capacity and life of the battery.

why dont you buy a $15 radio you can plug into a powerpoint when you do the gardening, could be cheaper. i dont see the point of setting up a dual battery system just to put your radio on it

There are a couple of words that always confuse me and for some unknown reason that is one of them.

The other is: suckshitpigyournotgoingtoarrestmeasIaintcomingwithyoumyeyesmyphwuckingeyes. I always leave out an apostrophe.

Get an ipod you dinosaur.

In case you can't afford one, try, "As you can see the radar says 109, sir. Say, that's a nice ipod you have on the passenger seat. Is that one of those special ipods that can make the radar say 99?"

"Why yes, officer, it certainly is."
This is not legal advice.

I just installed one of these in my ute in the 150 amp model, this one would suit your application fine.

Yep, I lol'd too. I think I understand your problem with the apostrophe - not knowing where to put one?

Because it needs two. :finger:

Thanks for this. Looks quite straightforward. Not a bad price.

check out RED ARC, they make some good dual battery isolators... and have smart start incase 1 battery is flat or using a winch flick the switch and use both batterys at once, only costs about $100

REDARC is the go... I quite often run my main battery flat when camping and using stereo/lights etc and starting car is as simple as pushing and holding button on dash and turning key.

You made my day, that was just too damn funny.
Rn, when you fit the redarc, cut your earth wire, and run it to a switch inside the cab, as these use 1 amp to stay engaged, so you can choose to turn it off when you dont want it to drain your main batt down to 12.6v.
When travelling, just leave it on, or when you have disconected the 2nd batt, you can turn the isolator off.

I chose to do this, as I can always bridge the 2 top nuts with a wire if I wish to connect them, but not use the amps to do so, ie max run time from both batteries for fridge, or both charging from solar, but not using extra amps to have them connected.
hope that makes sence.
