Ford EL 6/FJ45 swap

Post by Dezza80 »

Has anyone besides Ray done a EL Falcon 6 into 40 series swap.

Did it work out ok?

Would you do it again or go for a V8 or turbo diesel instead?

What is the fuel usage like?

Conversion kits are available so it must be a common thing but my search only comes up with a couple of related things and Rays build up thread.

Cheers

Mate, that is the motor I had in my fj45,

Sorry, I don't have any pics of the engine bay, but this would have to be one of the top engine conversions around. There's heaps of room and it looks like it was meant to be there they have tonnes of torque, top end power and economy. I could overtake loaded up and towing my drag car doing 120kmh, no extractors and only a 2 1/4 inch exhaust.

The only thing I would do if you consider it, is drop in a 5 speed and a 60 series power steer conversion (I used the Standard falcon PS pump), that'll make it even more pleasurable to drive.

Another thing too, if your model doesn't have a crossmember under the gearbox and only runs the mounts off the bell housing, get or make a gearbox crossmember, I ripped one mount clean out of the side of the bell housing and rooted it.

PS don't go over 160 kmh, no only is it hell scary, it breaks the speedo cable!!!

Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.

NOT EL BUT....

Humphey had a 250xflow in his 40, then in his buggy, now in his 60 and in his wifes 40.

Pinky's just put one in his 40.

I have a 250xflow in my MQ (60's LC t-case)
Mines auto, the other's are all manual

I'd have another, When this motor dies  I'll either replace/rebuild and turbo or supercharge or upgrade to a BA-BF XR6-T
I wouldn't spend the extra money on the El over the 250. I wouldn't do a V8 in a rego'd car simply cause of the yearly cost. I'd have a turbo or supercharged petrol. I doubt I'll ever have a turbo Diesel.
