12HT: high idle on cold startup

Post by lc61vx »

Hi,

Any idea's on what causes the engine to idle higher on cold startups? coz this use to happen on the cruiser but lately it doesn't anymore (is something broke?).. even on the coldest of mornings...

thanx.

12ht

Mine does a big rev up when it starts cold,

Surely its not good for it as it wouldnt have oil pressure,

The 12ht pumps are all vaccum operated, could have something to do with vaccum.

When starting the pump should be applying maxium fuel, hence the higher cold idel and big puff of smoke. My 13BT does it for only a second or two before the idle drops off.

12ht idle

Post by brendan rooke »

I dont know what it is with mine,

It does one quick rev up to about 1300rpm then back to idle,

Its probably the way they are, i just didnt notice it as bad with the stock exhaust, it just sounds like it too much through the 3 inch.

ring up an injection specialist place... he said it was 99% worn linkages and governor.... $1800 or $2400 worst case scenario for full pump rebuilt... hmmm... this is when i should start consider the 80's multivalve turbo but they are rare as hens tooth

Yeah my linkages are as sloppy as wet bread

I just put a heavy return spring on to take up the slack.

Anyone elses 12ht throttle as touchy as mine was.

I couldnt drive it after i put the 5 speed in, the thing was that touchy.

stick with the 60. both will cost you money in engine repairs sooner rather then later. At least with the 60 you won't be 20 grand in the hole from the intiial purchase.

plus 60's look way cooler.
