clarion graphic equalizer booster

Post by pig in shit »

my dad was cleaning out the shed today and found one of these, he said he had it on his second car (a long time ago). now i dont have an amp in the ute, just a pioneer head deck with two 6x9's running off that. i thought this thing looked pretty cool and still looked in good condition.
it has blue wire and black wire and a heap of speaker wire coming from the back of it, so i connected blue from the clarion onto the blue amp wire on the pioneer, earthed it and push on switch... works fine!! now there is about six speaker wires coming from it, four of them have no sound, and from the other two i can only get static noise, no music. im using 4" speakers to try make it work, speakers work fine.

is there somewhere else i can connect the blue wire from the clarion?
is there any chance this thing will work?

thankyou

if the equaliser has sliders try spraying CONTACT CLEANER (not crc) in there, might be full of dust and not making good electrical contact

Make sure the speakers don't have one of their connections earthed to the mounting frame/vehicle earth (common practice). Two adverse situations can occur.

Some amplifiers amplify both sides of their output (ie their "speaker +ve" and "speaker -ve" output, called a bridge amplifier, high power). You can do a bit of damage if you effectively connect one side of the amp to earth.

There can be some confusion with common wiring practice from different manufacturers when some run the *color plus stripe* speaker wire as the earth or as the active even on a simple "single ended" (lower power) amps, sometimes resulting on the active output going to the earthed side of the speaker by mistake.
