Hooking up a UHF

Haven't done much electrical work on the 4b b4 and wondering if any one has any tips on hooking up my UHF.
I'm a ChickenHawk, looking for a Chicken. Better go for cover when you hear my valves clickin'

hack it into your radio/cd player`s (or whatever ) power supply that is already running under the dash.

UHF

Its probably easier to hook the UHF up to your cigarette lighter circuit only because it wont interupt your radio clarity or something like that... plus you have both NEG and POS right there...

I just got uhf and I am planning on wiring it direct with fuse link to the battery to provide constant power is there any benefit or disadvantage with that theory ?

i think the only difference is that you probably wont need to turn the key to accessories on the ignition, you will be able to do it without the key = less hassle :D

only problem with this is if you forget to turn it off it could result in a ded battery a few days later....

mine is soon to be changed because its wired this way, ive been lucky that ive needed to get something from my car the few times ive used it.

Wired mine straight to my aux batt with fuse of course, no need for ignition on, no flat starting batt.

Could always put a relay accross switched to your cig lighter if u wanted to run power straight from the battery and not worry about having to turn the radio of... probably cost you about $5 in parts and 10 mins with a soldering iron.

My uhf runs 25 watts output and pulls about 7.5a @13v - so needed seperate wiring, I have had it hooked up both ways (on with accesories and direct to battery)
With this particular uhf (phillips prm8030) if you switch it off with the switch then back on again it resets to channel 25 scan off - etc.
If you hook it up to acc so it gets its power cut with the key, when it gets powered back up it goes to whatever channel and options you had before you turned the key off.
Yours may not work like that, but obviously some do, so maybe just something to bear in mind.
I hooked the gps up direct tho so i don't have to power it up every time :D

Thats running a 25watt UHF... you require a license for anything over 5watt output, so the current draw for a 5watt would be less.
