High RPM issue

Post by Fatz2326 »

Hey guys,
i have an issue with my car that i would like some advise on.
I have a 2000 gu ute with an after market turbo, IC and tickled fuel pump. (how I purchased it)
The issue I'm having is that when the car temp is warm, the rpm sticks.
I'll try to explain it a bit more.
When the car is cold, everything works fine, i rev up to 2000rpm, clutch in, rpm drops, change gear as everything works as should be... However, when the motor is warm... I rev up to 2000rpm, clutch in, revs stay at 2000rpm and slowly rise to 2100-2200 (doesn't decrease).
I'm guessing this is because the diesel pump has been wound up abit?
I thought I'd ask here before i started playing around and tweaking things.
Specs of the car:
4.2 TD
20lb boost (have spoken to a diesel tuner to take it back to 15lb and wind back pump respectively)
FMIC
3" exhaust
aus4wd extractor

if i could get some advise that would be great.
It probably is the obvious and the pump is wound up too high.

thanks for your time guys.
Cheers
Adam

Sounds like a clutch problem or a tacho problem, maybe a sticky throttle.
Depends what you mean by clutch in...etc.
What is idle speed cold and warm?

Can't see any reason why you are pointing the finger at the turbo.

high RPMs

i had a problem like yours, throttle sticking at 2000+rpm only when warm. i checked vacuume lines, throttle cable, air leaks etc finally took the throttle return spring housing off the injector pump and it was full of fine grit, dont know why it only stuck when it was warm but has never done it since.

Gudday

the problem you have occurs when the fuel is wound up too high.
I have seen over fuelled standard pumps rev too high at idle and still not have enough fuel at the top end.
If you want to run 20psi of boost you will need (among other things) a modified IP with the 12mm internals.
Its an annoying problem when clutching as the revs take a while to drop away and normal driving is a P.I.T.Arse!

As far as revs "increasing".....I'd start with backing off the fuel to standard then starting diagnostics from there.

good luck
GQ with 30 PSI of TD42T.........
