Who doesn't make a 12 inch travel shock? 12 inches isn't the longest shock available.

flex up ya hilux, measure the lengths between your shock mounts (long and short), then work out the ACTUAL length you need. then you will find your shocks so much easier.
12" for a zook and 12" for a mog are quite differant, somewhere between that you will find one that fits

Yes I get you, 12 inches of travel is a common lenght. My boss shocks have 12 inches of travel and they come with more travel.hi_luxmad wrote:im talking about 12''s over standard not 12'' overall length just so you know

12" is a common run of the mill size shock so everyone from Munroe through Bilstien, Fox, King etc and everyone in between has a 12" travel shock. Are you talking standard emulsion, coil over, remote canister, air shock, bypass, 2", 3", 4" etc? What is your budget?hi_luxmad wrote:hey

93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
i dont really have a budget but dont want to be spending 2k on shock absorbers.
i dont want coil overs,air shocks or the rest of them i just want standard shock absorbers with enough travel so as to not limit my suspension travel.
should i wait till i get shock to weld my shock hoops on or do it first then find the correct length shock?

step 1 - amount of travel required from shock when suspension configuration completed to make shock mounts.
step 2 - work out the mounts required
step 3 - measure the required collapsed and and extended length for our new shocks taking into account tyre size and any rubbing uissues with tyres in case bump stop spacers are required.
step 4 - order the shocks
step 5 - bolt them on
step #6 wish you did something a little different, and Test drive.

If its not for a tourer and you don't know what valving you want then look at Rancho or Tough Dog adjustables. Pick your size and mount types and then install them. When you say a bilstein 12'' shock it means the extendable length of the shaft basically and a 12'' travel shock is a long shock for a hilux and bilstein only seem to go to 14'' travel shocks and in order to fit them on a lux you have to do a bit of cutting.hi_luxmad wrote:im talking about 12''s over standard not 12'' overall length just so you know
And yes most companies do a 12'' shock and its a long shock to fit under a lux just to clear it up.

Yep your avatar said it all, yes with hoops and a body lift you can fit 12'' travel shocks if you go to 14'' travel you will usually have to cut through the inner guards into the engine bay to fit them, And they're harder to fit correctly on the back under the tray unless you have a stupidly tall truck?
