Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set

My experience is if you shim them to lock you get that, if you shim them tight and go to ormeau it will be same as normal limo by the time you get home, complete waste of money and time

Hey mavzilla how many shims have you put in? I was told put 2 in to tighten it up n 4 almost locks it.. I was gonna do 4 but was too much to fit by 0.2 mm so I only did 2 but its locked solid so far

if its locked it wont wear the plates out,if its tight you wear the shim width of in a good trip out and gota do it again. lota labour for little gain

Sorry to revive an old thread.

Did you diff loosen up at all?
I'm considering shimming mine up but worried it will lock it solid.

Ended up pulling mine out as i wanted a different ratio with my LS1, never loosened up but cut the life of the tyre in half or worse.. didnt bother with the new diff (just freshened it up) as i drive it daily and it wasnt a big enough difference to be worth it

i just got some shims water cut and instaled one at .8mm last night, i cant see how it could wear out unless the spring plates loose tension, cause the 4 dome keepers hold it from spinning. please correct me if im wrong as i am alot of the time. haha thats assuming i put it in the rite spot. i put mine on the bottom of everything, it was the first item to drop in the cluch cradle on assy and sits under the 2 spring plates on one side. please correct me asap if im wrong cause i havent run it yet.

extra pressure wears off 0.8mm in first trip out and you got a stock limo on the way home good luck

Did you put a shim in either side of the clutch plates??? I've down mine (GU) before and found that you only have to shim one side also read in a 4wd mag a tech article that mentioned it only needs to go in one side.............. But it depends if you want a tightened up LSD or a locked up diff??

Went for a epic drive on sunday, i will NEVER go with hilux/coureers ever again!!! any way back to lsd talk.. it made my rig do things that put a smile from ear to ear, it wont chirp doing u turns but it does not slip off road. i didnt think it would chirp on the road with 35 muddies anyway. read in the w/s manual that ute diffs are like twice as tight as wagons, they must use those 2.1mm friction plates as apose to the 2mm ones they mention in the manual. deffenetly recomend this to anyong with a lazy lsd. diff gasket cost $6 by the way beats making one.

Hi all
I Shimmed my rear up about 6 months ago with 2 .7mm shims. In the last 6 months i've done about 5,000km and it's still locked tight , and that's with 37's on the road to work every day. Chewing the crap out of the tyres.
So if i had my time again i'd only put 1 in. Just need the time to pull the centre out and remove one.
