hey wat would be a good motor swap for a 1991 1.6 lwb vit with 31's
i need more power for the road it strugels to pull the trailer at 90km/h let alone 110
i want to do a bit of touring as well as weekend fun so im not after huge power just enough to pull the car at a constant pace
i had a idea of a 2L 4cl out of the swb new vit any other ideas

his sig line says: winch, locked & gears....grimbo wrote:have you changed your gearing to compensate for the biger tyres? If not I'd do that ahead of an engine swap.

the 2.0l 4cly is a good motor, and would leave a lot more room in the engine bay compare to the V6

i know the gearing is wrong but without alot of work there is not much gearing to do in a vit for high range the tc gears are only low range i have 5 12 diffs already and the 5.89 are never for sales and i recon they wouldnt be to strong
i was thinking the 4cl as like atari4x4 said it would fit better
the v6 looks like there would be way to much work to make them fit even with a bl they hit every where .

then i would have to change diffs to suit the off set then bigger ties to clear the diffs then then then it never ends once you start
i would love to stick the sierra box and 60 diffs and some 35 as well but then it wouldnt be to good for touring and my wife would kill me

care to share the things that are wrong with the J20a, the timing chain can be an issue if not serviced regularly & the coil packs can fail... what else?error wrote:I would go for the 1.6L injected over the 2.0L have heard some nasty things about the 2.0L & the 1.6L injected seams bullet proof then if you like drop a turbo on it..
what about the 1.6's & their blocks that crack + heads that crack at the drop of a hat? the EFI 1.6 isn't that much more powerful than the carby & IMO it wouldn't be much of an upgrade in power... the 2.0l puts out around 95kw standard, how much power does the EFI 1.6 have?

Have had a few friends that have had them all had electrical problems would stop for no reason (almost lik a vapour lock) they spent heaps on trying to solve the problem never did ended up selling them..
don't know the amount but the difference in power between the carbie & efi model is enough had a carbie model with extractors, etc & my 75 efi model shits all over it.. & that is with a standard setup on bigger tyres..
haven't had any problems with any suzuki motor with cracking blocks or heads... (yet touch wood)
If the 1.6L efi is not big enough for your needs I would go the H25A motor... has to be good if they use it for aircraft...

Just want to play...........
i have a lwb so it is a 1.6 efi.
it has 215000km on it so maybe the motor it tied and needs rebuilding. it does not seem to bad, no smoke or anything just not much power
Would it be the 31 or should the motor be able to pull the car along still alright with 31 on it

It will pull it along alright, sure, but remember that 31s are a full 10% bigger in diameter than the stock size, so the gearing will be affected, and it can't be expected to accelarate and perform like it did before.saffrett wrote:i have a lwb so it is a 1.6 efi.

Bear in mind as well on 31s, it performs better than you think. If your speedo says 100 your actually doing over 110...

SWB carbed until 94.error wrote:Did you change the motor??
Vitara's as far as I know were a carby motor till mid 1994..
Efi motor should push the 31's I have a 95 SWB on 31's & it doesn't have a problem (heavy duty clutch but).. what is the difference in weight between the SWB & the LWB??
LWB EFI from the start - 91.
Weight diff is a bit, haven't got numbers to hand but someone will know.
LWB Vit with a reasonably fresh 1.6EFI and a decent exhaust should, depending on what you have on the trailer, pull reasonably well. At 215k, maybe she's pretty tired.
See if you can get a drive in a similar vehicle with fresher motor and I think you'll be surprised.
