5l and ls1 same marks4wd kit?
Hi guy's,
I am considering buying an 80 series that has an injected 304 holden engine in it.
It's cheap enough so I was considering replacing the 5.0l with an ls1. It's a manual and has been fitted using a marks4wd kit and all the wiring has been done as well.
I was wondering if the ls1 can use the same engine mounts, bell housing adapter and wiring as the 5.0l? I know the best place to ask is Marks4wd but it's Sunday so I thought I'd ask here in the meantime and call them tomorrow.
cheers

the engine loom is differnet, you might beable to patch the ls1 egine loom into whats left of the body loom to run the fuel setup and power to ECU.
i would ring up about the bellhousing cos i think the housing its self might work still? im only guessing off 60 seires and GQ hosuings ive seen run both trimatic and turbo pattern in the one hosuing.
engine mounts are differnt, but then again u might be able to make a differnet engine block mount off the LS1 to sute what ever chassis mount they used for the 304.

84 FJ60, SOA , 35's, 5ltr V8, Straight Gas. 80's coils in the making.
The LS1/Gen 3 has one bolt different from the older Chev/turbo Pattern and the crank shaft flange is recessed 10mm further into the block.
The engine mounts are different, the LS1 type are hydraulic and mount differently and the engine harnesses are totally different due to the plug on coil setup amongst other things.
So in short, nah nothing would be usable. you need the correct kit

There's two different patterns on the Holden V8'sStruth wrote:I thought they both used the turbo 350 bellhousing pattern and like mine the bellhousing comes with the extra bolt hole which you simply don't use on the Holden motor.
Maybe that only applies to carburetted 350s?
Cheers
There's the "Trimatic" pattern found on all 253's and most earlier 308's.
Then there's the "Turbo" pattern on some GTS spec 308's and later SLE 308's and all 5.0l injected engines.
They look similar but are totally different, they two top holes are obviously different but the bottom 4 and the dowels are only slightly offset.
Then as per the wisdom of GM, when they launched the LS series engine, they relocated one bolt, and changed the crank offset
