350chev efi 75series ute
well there isnt much in the bible for 75series...
ive got the 3f engine in my ute and id like something a bit nicer...
350chev... 454... something like that, anyone done it? is there a conversion kit to make it fit to the current box?? is there such a thing as a fuel injected 350??
what if i wanted to put a turbo 700 gearbox in too, or something like that... is it possible? can i run a stand alone transfer case from something else?
surely someone out there has done something like this? links or pics pleaseee.
really my whole story is... my gearbox needs a rebuild ($2500) my engine is sucking 28.5litres to the hundred and is starting to make some scary tapping noises (tappets are fine),

injected chevs come in heaps of sizes even gen 1 blocks had it 90 corvets
gen two is still all cast steel came in injected and carby
gen 3 alloy block and heads efi this is what i would go for
low weight and heaps of power 5.7 or 6 liter cheap commy parts and a marks kit and your off and running
or a big block 572 cast block alloy heads efi but a to hold that big horse power big $$$$ upgrades to every thing gear box diffs chassie ect

yea? jease it would have to be pulling pretty freaking hard to damage a cruiser! i was thinkin to myself... well these things are pretty solid to start with so i rekon ill be pretty rite with putting anything into it.
but maybe i thought wrong.
the thing is ive got about 30 sets of 350heads and bare blocks, and about 4 sets of 454 heads just laying round in my old workshop. so i kinda want to build something around that stuff to save the coins...
marks conversions? is that a company? or is that a bloke on the forums?

marks 4wd adaptors is the company
http://www.marks4wd.com/
look under 'products', 'engine conversions', then pick your cruiser and it gives you all the options.
Some of their stuff is expensive but most of it is pretty good.

hmm they have some good kits on that site. nothing to fit a 454 though... but i guess a bit of work put into a 350chev and the truck should hoon along quite well.
now to the next bit, anyone got a 350 short motor laying around?? in need of a rebuild preferably. cash paid. 4 bolt mains prefered but either or.
thought i had the block sorted but the old boss wasnt too keen on selling me one of his blocks, silly old bugger holds onto stuff way tooo long.

These days you can put EFI and electronic throttles on pretty much anything. One of the challenges i had years ago with a 350 was the 650DP overfueling at weird angles. No such issues with EFI on a 350/454 anymore

oh thats handy! theres a couple second hand systems floating round on ebay luckily.
well ive got the 350! just gotta put the money through and wait for delivery, then its rebuild time!
i priced up EVERYTHING i could possibly need including stage 2 cam, water pumps, mechanical fuel pumps, forged flat top pistons, bearings seals full gasket set, head bolts and oil pump, it all comes to $1100.
ill throw up the pics as im machining everything as im sure someone might find it interesting.
then ill order one of those marks kits and throw that in, and then get it on the road and see how it goes
anyone out there done it before???

Im just playing with my SBC at the moment. Suggest you go an electric pump instead of the mechanical. Less of a headache with hosing etc and helps with cold starting etc. Im doing a heap of other stuff to the top end at the moment so if you got any questions let us know...redhotzook wrote:oh thats handy! theres a couple second hand systems floating round on ebay luckily.

2 bolt 010 blocks are the best if you can find them get 4 bolt splayed caps fitted the strongest possible combination you can have until you go for a world, dart, merlin etc blocks. If you have a chevy converion kit it doesnt matter if its a big block or small block diesel or petrol all Chevy v8s have the same bellhousing pattern and same engine mount placement. I have played around with Chevs in 80 series cruisers and i reckon the best thing you can do is put a turbo700 box in there they have 30% overdrive so great for the highway and got a pretty low first gear. You can buy a big block and turbo 700 for under 3 grand second hand, running and with a 3 month warranty. I have a marks adapters kit for for a chev and turbo 700 if ur interested brand new still in box.
Marks stuff is good but i dont like there extended bell housing idea. Heard of them flying apart with modded motors. i used all the marks power steering and alternator brackets but went with the dellow bellhousing.
getting it enginered is about 800 and u have to have a newer engine than car or it be straight gas.

FJ 73, army green ,snorkel, high mount, dual bats, draws,
Most of it is good in theory. The rest you have to modify to make it work.anzac wrote:Some of their stuff is expensive but most of it is pretty good.
And they try telling you that their weld in, replacement engine mounts dont work because you aren't using their bellhousing, even though you have the engine in the same position as theirs would be in?
I dont like their bellhousing idea either. Too many parts to go wrong.
redhotzook,
Be prepared, not everything always works in the world of custom cars. Doesnt always go as easy as "ill just chuck a 350 into my cruiser".
My swear jar is full of custom work.

yea i know :(
having second thoughts about it...
my gearbox reallly needs a rebuild, crunching almost every gear and its a mission to keep it in 5th, keeps popping out. ahhh i hate 3F;s
everyone is asking way too much for 1hz;s aswell. guy tried to convince me that his 1hz with a broken cam and no injector pump was worth 1500, and he wasnt sure if the pistons have hit any of the valves or not.
hmm i just want a bare 1hz, if it has an injector pump, thats just a bonus, i just want, head block, crank, conrods, inlet manifold and wiring loom, thats all! all the rest ill buy new, surely someone has something like that for the $500 to $900 mark! haha
