LN65 tie rod question PLEASE HELP

Post by DUDELUX »

Hey, I went out playing on the weekend, and now the bushes on both ends of my tie rod have heaps of movement in them.
I just jacked the front end up, and took both front wheels off to have a look for anything else, but everything seems fine.
Just both the ends wobble about an inch or so side to side.
Now I know that its not supposed to move that much, and my questions are.....
- can I replace the bushes or do I have to replace the whole end??
- whats going to happen if I continue to drive with it like this??
- am I better off replacing the whole rod??
- what are the rough prices on replacing bushes, ends and rods??

Thanks for the help.

PS, I did a search but got no answers except how to change the ends in the bible.

Ive been searching places like Superior, Snake, BBM, etc as well as ebay, etc for ideas on what I can get for what price.
Found a place at Auburn that quoted me $20 each.
I rang everywhere I can think of thats local to me, prices range from $41 to $84 each side. I have 1 guy thats chasing good prices for me, I will get back to him at 2oclock.
If I have to get the ones from Sydney($20each), it wont be until friday, as Ill be down there anyway.
If I drive to and from work for the next 2 days then to Sydney, whats going to happen with the tierod ends the way they are now, obviously, they would get worse, and I dont think they will fall off, but, what will happen??

mate you can do them yourself but youll need a wheel alignment after if you cant get them spot on and as for falling off, one of mine went a while ago was driving around getting a cronic thud every corner. Got home went to pry it off with a tie rod puller and it popped off the ball so just take it easy maybe, i doubt under load it will release but maybe under no load if worn enough it could possibly pop out.

Someone please correct me if im wrong

Yeah I was going to do as much here as possible, Ive just been searching through my boxes of lux bits, and I found the bits I need, both side tie rod ends, but the short side(drivers side) is stuffed, but I manged to keep the long side, with the bracket for the steering damper, looking good.
So it looks as though I only need to but 1 new one.
Should I use the piece I found in the shed, and buy 1 new piece, or would I be better off buying new for both sides.

i only replaced one side of mine but if you can afford i would have said fix both as once you fix one thing the next one in line thats old normally breaks, then keep the ok one as a spare maybe.

!!!!$20!!!!! each seems too cheap are they plastic? buy cheap ones by all means but after you have bought the second or third set you realise you should have paid more and got ones that last.
