i got 5inch spring, 2 inch body.
for a 5inch lift my patrol doesnt flex as good as some other patrol going around with simplier specs.
i thinking going new 6inch springs or maybe getting new 5inch coils.
if i got 6inch springs will i need change my dropboxes?
im not very in 4wding things but i enjoy taking mine out, all info is welcome.!

disconnect the swaybars for a start when your 4wding
and you also need to measure the length of your shocks, you may find the shocks are maxing out stopping your flex.
you will also find the front will flex shite as it is because the bushes are already in compression from the lift, consider different arms, superior superflex arms seem to be all the rage

Disconnect your shocks and flex it up and then take some measurements to work out what lenght shocks you need.love ke70 wrote:

Longer coils won't make difference for flex.

you could have a 100inch lift, but that doesnt mean it will flex well if the whole thing is not correctly matched and setup...

I did however take out the passenger front radius arm bolt to get the front to flex so well. The front ends on Patrols and Landcruisers, (besides leaf spring), act like a huge sway bar and limt the travel by binding on the bushes. By removing the one bolt, (off road only), it will let the diff rotate without binding. It's not the best way to do it but it works and it's free.

have you got a pic of the bolt removed? just to make sure im thinking the same bolt as you. im doing this next time im going wheeling, seems about a thousand dollars cheaper than the next alternative

It's the bolt closest to the front on the passenger side radius arm. Yeah grimbo, that's an old photo and not the best example for huge flex I know, but it was the easiest to show the arm dropping out of the bracket. All depends on your spring rate. Heavier duty springs are generally thicker and shorter. Flexier springs are thinner and longer to acheive the same height. here is a pic from ages (2003) ago of my white gq wags. 5" dobinson coils and shocks worked very well for a standard swap over.
not a flex war but here is a pic of the bus with the old shorter shocks and a 5 link front end. new 100mm longer shocks fitted y/day.... no pics yet.
I have heard of a lot of guys taking the bolt out and they have all said that as far as off road goes it was good.
I have had nearly every front end so far.....standard setup lifted, 3rd arms, 3rd arms with x-lnk combo and now a 5 link. every one has its pros and cons and everyone likes something different.
love my truck off road but it is boatlike on the road....... it suits me.
