Chev V8 Diesel into F100???

Chev V8 Diesel into F100???
I have a '79 model F100 4x4 and would like to fit a Chev V8 diesel engine. To keep the conversion as simple as possible I think I will keep the original 4 speed manual gearbox.
I have done engine conversions in other vehicles before using kits from Mark's Adaptors etc.
I have spent some time searching for conversion kits both in Oz and the USA but so far have not been able to come up with anything.
Does anyone know of a manufacturer that produces any of the componenets to do this conversion such as engine mounts or bellhousing adaptor etc?
Cheers,
Brett

assuming its a 2wd model, why not fit it with a chev gearbox, either manual or auto I would thing in the long run this would be an easier and cheaper way to go
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
Yeh I would love to go Duramax or Cummins but they are both much more expensive options.craz3d wrote:At least make it a 6.6 duramax if your going to taint an f100 with GM shit.
Otherwise, go a cummins ;)
I also already have 3 chev engines 2 of which were removed from our boat so I will have plent of spares.
I am not trying to turn it into a racing car just happy with a bit of torque for towing and reduced fuel consumption in comparison to the cleveland that is in it.

I would prefer a gearbox change to auto and your suggestion is a good one but the problem is that it is a 4x4 F100 and I dont want to have all the dramas that go with adapting a different gearbox to the transfer case. Happy to stick with the old box hanging on it's original mount and only deal with adapting the engine.
I think you will find that the onlt factory diesel F100 produced in Australia was the Perkins 4 cyl version and yes it was a complete slug. My brother in law had one of these and got about 30mpg but could hardly do the speed limit.
As mentioned above I am not trying to turn it into a racing car. I expect the V8 diesel will have slightly increased torque figures over the 302 cleveland that is in it and reduced fuel consumption. Being non-turbo versions the diesels still have a nice V8 sound too.

dellow auto list a "Ford F Series diesel conversion" in their catalogue; they apparently have:
FORD “F” SERIES DIESEL CONVERSION
CHEVY V8 OR HOLDEN V8 TO S.A.E. NO. 3
ROAD RANGER 610/R TO S.A.E. NO.3
ALLISON AUTOMATIC AT540 BEHIND
SAE3 TO ROAD RANGER

I am not familiar with the f-trucks or the chev diesels so I am not sure if these bits will help you or not.

This is not legal advice.
mates got one in his custom work ute 6.2 with a gq 5 speed.
F250 extended chassis dually rear with air bags 36" sleeper bunk 22' foot long overall bullbar to towbar
goes well considering it weighs 5.2 ton with tools etc.
use the DANA something front from a chev C something to put the front diff in right position and your in business......
had a worked turbo 400 in it for a while and blew it up twice before going to the GQ box.
used to drink the fuel with the auto something shocking too

It looks like you may have the "Disable BBCode in this post" box checked. There is nothing wrong with your post itself.Waipuna wrote:p.s. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong with the "quote" to cause it to not show correctly? Bit green at this.
I'm glad the link to Geoff Dellow helped, I have used a few of his bits and pieces over the years including one of his bellhousings.

Thanks mate - just testing with BBCode enabledchimpboy wrote:It looks like you may have the "Disable BBCode in this post" box checked. There is nothing wrong with your post itself.Waipuna wrote:p.s. Correct me if im wrong but didnt both the chev and ford of that era run dana transfers with the same mountings . Other than finding a chev truck box here is australia wouldnt it be an easier swap to use chev box and put a ford transfer on the back for correct front drop.

if you were using a divorced transfer NP205 or similar it would be fine but we used the GQ 5 speed and transfer for better drivability so had to swap the front diff out to the chev unit that has the center on the other side.
CWBYUP ill see if i can find some pics for you..... its awesome to sleep in when you are too pissed to drive home.....
