ARB Bar mounting

Post by nicbeer »

Does anybody have and of the instructions regarding the mounting of the ARB bars.

I ahve just bought one 2nd hand for $150 and want to put it on once i have painted it.

Any pics relating to the mounting and what holes need drilling would be super.

PS: its on a 85' NT 1.3 SWB sierra

cheers

I thought it bolted to those factory holes at the end of the chassis rails

They mount on both of the points and the chassis. Mainly after the chassis bit as those pesky end bits are being removed for the 31's clearance.

cheers

It will mount on the front of the chassis rails through the factory holes. The ends of the bar will have to be modified if you have cut the wings off the chassis. Most people just cut the mounts off the bar and not woor about them which will work as long as you don't use a whinch in it.

IMO the ARB sierra bar mounts are a joke.

I used to have the standard ARB and thought yeah OK those mounts will do the job, but I wonder what they use for the winch bar.

Same mounts.

Now I must admit i've never seen or heard of anyone ripping their ARB winch bar from the front of their zook during winching but jeez, have you seen how much metal is at the front of the chassis in front of those bolt holes? Not much.

Admittedly it would be a lot stronger if we left the outriggers on but hey, who wants to drive around on 215s for the rest of their zookin career?

That's my rant for tonight :D

You get busy with that welder in your avitar pic and custom fab some thing stonger  . I replaced the front tube which is 48.5mm O/D x 44mm I/D with some 48.5mm O/D x 37.7mm I/D tube then put crush spacers in the end of the frame and 10mm plate each side which was bored out to fit around the tube.
I done this after we snacth recovered the SJ 413 with a SWB patrol and ripped the front tube out, if any one wants to see why you shouldnt recover a zook with the factory tow piont I post a pic of it for them.

Hey, i'd never thought of doin that welding thing before ;)

I too have ripped the front crossmember apart during a recovery. I had my ARB winch bar modded to mount stronger but i'm still not 100% happy with it. If you want something right do it yourselfthey say... with a little more pratice my welds should be good enough to start on this. But in the meantime my rig aint going anywhere in a hurry :x

I'm thinking of removing the tube crossmember altogether ans going with a big piece of angle across the chassis rails. Should allow for the steering box to be brought forward too.
