minispool?
I was gunma get a auto locker for my 92 serria but a mate reckons go a minispool. Can get it real cheap too. Has anyone ever had one before. How do they go. It is only a weekend warrior too so dont really care how it goes on road. Opinions would be great. Cheers
Do it. It'll push you straight through roundabouts - understeer in the wet and chirp on the concrete when doing low speed sharp turns and wear out your rear tyres probably twice as quick as your front but overall as a traction aid they seem to be a good strong way of getting the power to the ground. So if none of the above concerns you go for it!

I used to daily drive my maruti with a minispool rear.
Keep a decent amount of pressure in your tyres and it drives fine.
Only time you'd notice it was pulling into/out of a carpark at slow speed/full lock.
Granted, this is a long wheel base ute, so longer and lighter in the rear than a regular zook.

'95 Maruti lwb, 1.6GTI, 6.5:1, locked F+R, SPOA on 33's.
The last zook minispool i saw was well made out of a reasonable quality case hardenable steel.
Only problem was the manufacturers hadn't case hardened it ( or not properly ) with obvious consequences... no splines left.
So... just be aware that the Asian copies of other peoples products can look great ( its easy to copy dimensions etc etc ) but "hidden" details like how its been heat treated/hardened, which aren't obvious don't always get done well.

iv,e got one in my nt but its not my daily, 32's with 25 psi. i wouldn't go back. heaps of guys on here run welded it just more of a reliable version.
its a bit harder to park but thats about my only complaint. it doesn't skip annoyingly around corners.
got mine from locked up.

If you have another set of spider gears for the rear diff you can weld them up and it will be take-out-able like a minispool. Thats my cheap advice for today

ive got one never go bak to anyting else beside air locker, ive had no probs with mine i blew up the welded one
i am looking at an auto lokka as mine is regularly driven on the road i blew 2 welded rears in my swb zook, both in sticky car parks on tight turns with 12-15psi. i never had a problem in the bush though. also when you're on your way out to play in the mud there is a good chance you will be drivin on wet public roads, which can be a bit hairy and illegal, unless its trailered of course

if you cant afford the $100 for the spool you probably cant really afford to seriously go wheeling anyway.
85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers,ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.

x2 ajsr i love the minispool i find it fine on the black top never had a problem with it
i have had welded diffs in my last two zooks and they have had there problems have had both self destruct,smash spider gears to bits etc,but i just pieced em back together and went again not reccomended and if i ever had a zuk again or any other car without airlocker id be going minispool or spool for sure,much better option in my opinion and is bugger all money.No problems with welding the hardened gears etc,nice machined up one piece locker with almost nothing that can go wrong.
With the right tyre pressures on the road they arent that bad if you drive accordingly my 2c
