Broken CV - Jackaroo
I have a 1997 Holden Jackaroo and have broken the front CV on the left hand side.
Just wondering how big of a job this is to change.
Just wondering how big of a job this is to change.
have a look on www.clubisuzu.com
lots of info there
lots of info there
I have changed about 10 of them on my Mu in the bush, here is a quick run down of my method
-remove wheel, and locking hub.
-remove cir-clip from CV, inside the hub.
-undo the one nut on the bottom of the upper A-arm (use a small club hammer to separate the ball joint from the wish bone)( don't remove the nut fully until the two are seperate, then take the nut off)
-undo the clasp that is holding the innner rubber boot to the diff
-inside the cup there s a wire inner cir-clip to remove, use small screw drver.
-u should be able to remove the broken CV joint now.
-slide the new CV into the wishbone first (be careful u don't push part of your locking hub out)
-line up the innner cv with the cup.
-use a jack to raise the lower arm til the cv slides into the cup
-line up the upper joint to
-place the innner cir-clip into the cup
-replace the clasp over the inner boot to the diff
-place nut and tighten the upper ball joint, (don't forget the split pin)
-put your locking hub back on, it will only go on two ways.
-put ur wheel back on and you should be good.
I don't think i missed much. if there isn't enough room to put the new cv in you can loosen the 4 bolts on the lower ball joint to allow the wishbone to drop out more, or maybe the tierod
good luck with it.
btw use this info at ur own risk.

thanks fly3r just starting to do the job when you say take the inner rubber boot off and and remove clip do you have to do that because the new shaft i have has a complete inner cv with boot and inner axle that goes into the diff centre attached so can i take it out complete or do i have to do it as you say by taking that clip off . thanks for the help
Re: Broken CV - Jackaroo
Yes you can change the whole lot, but you need to drop the two bolts that hold that side off the diff and at least loosen the other two, then the bracket and inner CV axel should come out. The bearing is C-cliped onto the shaft, that is why they won't just pop out, and it is a biarch of a job...
Go hard or go home!!!

Re: Broken CV - Jackaroo
No, you can do it differently. This is the way i do it, got it down to 45min in the bush... and i would recommend it this way
the other way i know of is the way Yarno said. which u'd probably loose a fair bit of diff oil, and will be a pain, especially if u gotta do it in the bush.
Hows it going? have you finished it? have any trouble?

Re: Broken CV - Jackaroo
jobs done thanks for the help fly3r and yarno once i cleaned the grease out of the inner i found the wire clip you were talking about and got the inner cv out, the axle was snapped between the inner and outer cv a mate came over and gave me a hand and we ended up reusing the inner cv just took the broken bit of axle out and used the new axle and outer cv. should be good now till it breaks another one .once again thanks for the help.
