ARB Steel Winch Bar

Post by nicinnz »

I had ordered from the local distributor a ARB steel winch bar for my 92 NH SWB with no air bags. ARB Aust is currently out of stock but do have stock of 1996 air bag compatable bars. Can any one tell me if the latter Air bag bar will bolt straight on to my non air bag truck.

It would probably bolt on to the chassis, but not line up with the bodywork - if the body work doesn't actually get in the way.

In Aus terms, a 1996 Pajero has the larger engine / drivetrain, which includes the "factory body lift".

At a guess, I wouldn't expect it could even be made to fit, unless you install a body lift.

If you intend to investigate this route, ask ARB to send details of the chassis mounting points - just to be sure.

Its a Shame you're not in Melbourne. A work acquaintance is selling one off his NJ and it's practically brand new. Only wants $500. I would have bought it but my wife had a good argument that "our car already has a BLOODY Bullbar". I tried to tell her that it was new and could take a winch......... Her reply, "How much does a bloody winch cost". I had nothing more to say.

Mmmm didnt think of the body lift syndrome with the latter models. I am not keen to do a body lift as i puts too much stress on the body. I might just wait until July for the correct bar. Thinking I might just mount my winch in the mean time see how it goes.
I bought a KZJ95 Prado the other day, had a stuffed head, new head etc fitted all up and running now, drives great nice on the road, Hopeless off road but didnt buy it for that, will keep the mighty Paj for tough stuff

Nic, I wouldn't mind betting it would bolt on. The ARB bar I have just got (non airbag) has two sets of mounting holes, one set 30mm above the other for the factory body lift.

I like the look of the airbag ones better as they have the curve in the base of the upright bars, I think it is hudson44 that has an airbag one on his if you can find a pic in "pics of our rigs"

I can take a pic of my ones mount if you like???

Just had a look at mine. It only appears to have one set of mounting holes. Not sure if it is airbag compatible or not. It doesn't have any crush cans. Mine is non winch though. Here's the best pic i have.....

ARB Bar

Post by dusty_nz »

Hey Huson.
Your bar looks like mine. Is it steel?

I have the same on my 97NL and have just fitted a warn8000 winch to it after geting the same reply. If its ARB and Steel then its winch compatible.

It had bolt holes and a cable hole in the front. Had to cut a hole in the top for the fat cable and drilled some holes in the top for the controller box.
I then mounted it upside down so the clutch was at the bottom right opening (by your snatch strap)

The front cable hole had a slight homemade look to it (came with the car). Anyway, Last outing I stalled the winch and there was no deformation, flex or other concerns with the bar or mounts.
