Hay People,
I have an 81 MQ SWB 4 speed 3.3l diesel 24 volt.
I have just bough a 83 MQ SWB 5 speed turbo diesel 12 volt off road buggy.The buggy is just a cut down SWB with roll bars.
I am wanting to put the motor and box into my 81 MQ SWB.
Is there any problem going from 12 volt to 24volt or vice vursa?
Will I still need to have the tail shaft modified? even with the one from the donor vechile?
Is there any mods to be done when putting in the turbo engine?
Will there be any differance in the rear diffs? is one better than the other?
I will be doing the p/steer conversion aswell but i belive this is just a strait bolt on applcation.

MQ conversion 4 to 5 speed, non turbo to turbo, 12v to 24v.
search is your friend..
All is possible 24 to 12 is a bit of a pain. I found it easier to swap over wire looms. but each to their own. All bulbs, motors, dash cluster needs to be changed. Just swap shafts with from donor, diffs should all be the same, unless by some odd chance you got a c200 in the rear but i doubt it. Diff ratios between the 2 should be that same 4.625. Rear G/box mounts on chassie are further forward on the 4 speed. can cut off and reweld. But can make up plate to compensate, no welding.
I have a sd33 p/s kit at olds in qld if you need it.
But search or use bible has loads of info

The body swap is the easiest.
Been there done that. Rego will be your only enemy.
As far as motor swap goes. They are exactly the same size and bolt down the same.
Your exhaust will need to be from the doner vehicle due to the turbo.
The 5 speed gearbox moved into your truck will sit about 6 inches too far back to bolt up. You will have to put new transfer mounts on your chassis or move yours further back and your shafts from your donor vehicle will fit.
The problem you will have from memory ( and this is from memory as its been quite a few years since ive played with MQs like this ) is that the chassis crossmember that runs under the front driveshaft is ( I THINK ) in a different position on both models, which means when you put your 5 speed in and it pushes your transfer back, the crossmember will be in the way of your front drive shaft and wont bolt up, you will need to either move this back, or notch is for the shaft.
