What turbo is this?

Post by steve patrol »

Got a turbo yesterday. Dont know what brand it is? It has 1H1 Turbo on it. All the info that I could find online is that it "might" be a Borg Warner turbo??? Want to know if its bearings or brushes, how good they are, and find out what sort of psi i can safely run it at into a 97 TD42 engine?

This is also on the turbo...

Spec. VF12 9209
RHBB. 11 2B1A
Part no. 14412AAU80

H4
27F
B52X
20-R
5

Any info would great!

Cheers

It is indeed an IHI brand turbo, nothing to do with Borg Warner (who never made turbos).

Original equipment on 2-2.5 litre Subaru Liberty's (Legacy in other markets)

I think Borg Warner have some corporate tie-up with IHI. Kind of like Allied Signal/honeywell and garrett.

Your kidding!

BorgWarner is a very large manufacturer of turbos. Many of the modern European turbo engines use BorgWarner turbos as do Ford in USA.

Almost everything from japan in the 2-3 litre range with a turbo would be an IHI RHB5 or RHF5. The RHF is the later turbo that isn't rebuildable, the RHB is the earlier ones that are.
There is some interchange of housings etc between subaru and isuzu RHF turbos but I don't know the specifics.

Borg Warner own the KKK and Schwitzer brands. That may help some people recognise them.
