Hot start problems NJ 1995 model.

Post by twitchy »

A Mate has a hot start problem with his NJ Pajero.

So far, Been to the mechanics & they have tested the computer which is fine but it shows NO faults.

Not knowing Mitsus very well thought I would see if you lads had seen this problem or had an idea where to start.

I'm not aware of any common "hot start" problems - can you be more specific? I presume it simply doesn't like to start when it's hot? What happens when it finally does start?

I'm thinking fuel problem? Either leakage, or a heat soak / vapour problem?

What are the symptoms? Does it crank for a while before firing after sitting for a while when hot? I'm assuming its a V6 petrol. If so i can recommend looking at leaking injectors. To test this theory, let it sit for 10 mins after being driven for a while. Disconnect the injectors (main connector on the RH side of the rail for 3.0lt) then crank it over and see if it fires for a bit then dies. If so this means that the fuel is leaking into the cylinders while sitting and over-fueling on start-up, as the injectors are pumping as well. Hope this helps.

i am a couple of days late but i second hudson44. i have a 93 v6 triton and chased many things to fix my hot start problem.

when cold it would start first crank. once hot it would take 4 seconds of cranking to start. I pulled the injectors out, had them cleaned, and now it starts after 2 cranks of the starter motor, hot or cold.
