Have you changed the alternator? When I changed my GQ one for a generic chinese made one it sat the belt slightly further forward than the original one and I would have had problems like you describe.
I ended up having to machine the back of the pulley to get it sit in line with the pulley on the engine.

Make sure you aren't over-tightening them. Gotta be just right.
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.
