defected front bar
hey peoples
just wondering how many of you out there have been defected on your front bar. got pulled over yesterday and alas i got defected on my front bar. will pop a photo on this arvo when i work it out. but its neat with clean lines no sharp edges and no protrutions. after listening to what the cop said anything that is not standard on the vehicle can be defected on, so going by that statement any car with a body kit is defectable. if this is the case they should have written themselves a ticket for there silly vent mounted air freshner and that bloody mounted computer in the car ie. could be a projectile in an accident. but being smart i didnt say anything cause they wernt writting me any fines. which they reckon they could, so does this meen that any after market bar winch bar that does not come from the manufacturer of the vehicle is a defectable item.
so how many of you have had this prob show us some pics of what you got defected on

IF IN DOUBT GO FLAT OUT
They were probably flexing their cop muscles. I'm sure if there was a fine there they would definately have written it.
By that logic, any commercially available aftermarket bar would be a defect, including those little alloy number plate bar things some cop cars have with flashing lights on.
The only laws I know of in regards to front bars are protrusions which would be dangerous to a pedestrian, and air bag sensors

The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.
the cop was wrong. there are plenty of legal modifications. front bars being one of them.
the laws are that they must not slope forward from the "bumper" section, so that pedestrians aren't forced under the car if hit. ideally they would be designed sloping back so a ped will "roll" up it and onto the bonnet in a worse case scenario.
and they can't have protrusions or sharp edges. so no rod holders, spotties need to be behind the barwork, and cb arial brackets as well.
yep, i got defected for the big 4 post that was on my troopy when i bought it (and strangely cleared the handover road worthy).
no loss, it was ugly and useless anyway.

Spit my last breath
Yep, tough luck theyll get you for whatever they want if it's not standard, although ped protection is a fair set of rules, if i got hit by a 4x4 the chances of going under it are greater imo, my arb bar slopes down as to push them down, you can't win so suck it up and be nice and as you showed you won't get a fine, most of the time haha.

Check the ADR's but from memory front wheels need to be completely covered when viewed from directly above and wheels pointing forward.solidute wrote:just to look at i'd guess it is because the bar work doesnt go wide enough to cover the wheels, not that id know but have heard some comments like that from other 4by drivers
