LockRight Not Unlocking

Post by Red04VXE »

Well I finally replaced the rear axle with another std one on Sat morning, plus new dowels & studs. As soon as i drove out onto the rd noticed that the rear diff is not Unlocking at all (Richmond LockRight). Drove it 100miles to a 4wd park. Broke all the new studs and 1 dowel off after wheeling for about 4hrs.

What causes Lockrights to not unlock so I know what to look for when the time comes?

ok, a lockright never unlocks as such. What they do is allow one wheel to travel faster than the other but never slower.

So when you corner for example the outside wheel is allowed to go faster than the inside so it is the inside wheel that gets the drive.

If they do not do this it is ually do to bad install, incorrect springs or a bad unit. They are a pretty simple design and usually work well.

Be warned though under power they will hardly ever "unlock" due to their design. This is why they get bad torque steer.

It's probably broken the pins they like to do it when they get the shock load of a axle breaking or cv letting go is a common one
