with slightly longer shackles (about 25 to 30mm) you can get some amazing flex outa springs without the funkyness or expense of "drop shackles".
You may need to loosen the clamps on the leaf packs a bit and possibly remove some leaves.

My experience with them has been that these type of shackles destroy springs and the flex they give is not as progressive or usable as a good set of springs will give. We watched a set of these destroy a set of springs in a day on a trip last year. And it was directly attributed to the shackles. The owner of the car then put in standard shackles and had no spring damage problems.
Others have had great results with no dramas.

I'm actually fairly firmly in this camp. I've been runnin them for around 12 months now and they're not up there with the best mod I've ever done but nor are they complete shite. I have not seen or experienced anything that would convince me that they are either the "Ducks Guts" or "Satan's Curse". I just think in some circumstances (in my case for example) they are a reasonable compromise.
My engineer (in QLD) said "hmmm maybe" which was way better than the "ha ha ha - no way" response I got from him, QT and anyone else I've asked here about SPOA.
For anyone contemplating this mod my advice is:
Think about what your trying to achieve
Fully examine what your options are to achieve this end.
Cost out what the realistic costs will be (include shockies Brake lines etc)
Determine what the legal/insurance ramifications are.

Make an informed decision

I’ve been running a set of climax shackles for about 3 months now. They aren't the answer to all your problems, neither are they the cause of problems once they are installed.

If I had done more research I probably wouldn't have installed drop shackles as soon as I did. I would have locked and geared my zook first. As I have now done. I believe this has had a greater impact upon my offroad ability then a bit of extra travel.
I believe that drop shackles would be great if you were looking for extra travel to increase your RTI, but set up the rest of your suspension first and then look at them if you believe that they're for you.
That's my two cents.

Meh. I think the main problem here is that people buy them as a bandaid solution to make their zook flex better when all else fails. Best to set it up properly before you go buy them. Personally ive found them ok for going through ruts, but ive felt very uneasy with them open driving up steep stuff. However not everyone wants to drive that sort of stuff. Mine flexes quite well without them and with dual lockers flex really isnt the main issue anymore. They are good for some conditions - not so good for others. Im not bagging them, nor am i saying they are the greatest thing in the world. I know the guy who makes them and he always makes sure that the buyer is aware of what needs to be done to make them work properly. The problem is if you are not purchasing them directly off him, then you may not be getting this crucial advice.
