driving home from a surf trip down the coast on the weekend my odo come up to 245999 and stopped working
it seems all those 9s being driven around from 245999 to 246000 require too much force from the 0.1km number dial. Every 1km the right most 9 comes around, strains and fails to catch the rest of the numbers resulting in a kick and a jump on my speedo needle. If that makes sense.
I want to keep it working to ensure the history of my kms are correct and also because my fuel gauge is really inaccurate.
Has anyone dissasembled an odometer to get it working again? Is this possible? as I know they are designed not to be tampered with.

At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.
I've pulled mine apart a couple of times but I'm a mechanic so its not too much hassle for me.
If you dont want to get to tricky, pull the dash cluster out, take out all the screws which secure the fascia to the cluster body then spray the crap out of the cogs with wd40 or something similar. Probably the most you can do without pulling the speedo needle off and seperating the whole kit...

yep the odo gears collect grease and dirt over time and slow down.. careful removing the pin that keeps the number cluster in.. i collapsed one end trying to get it out but it still worked.. have worked ever since i cleaned mine up. also removing the light sheilds is another pro tip while yer in there.
