4Runner Build Up
Hey Everyone I am in the planning stages of my build up, and i don't want to waste time and money doing things twice so i am looking for advice.
Currently I have an ifs 4runner 2in body 2inch suspension lift 33's. I recently purchased a front cut from a bundera and am planning on sasing my runner.....So here is my delema i want to achieve as much flex as i can (imparticular what radius arms to use), also dont want to lift it too high, but would like to run 35's. Finally has to be engineered....I realise this is a really broad question but i just want to get an idea of whats been done and what works before i begin.....
Also hopping to set up a build thred so people can see which way i went.

First rule of SAS's in a 4Runner is you can't get it low. It will still sit a fair bit higher than your 4" lift now. My first runner had 2+2 and balljoint spacers as well, on 35's. After the coil (5link custom) SAS it still went up a fair bit!
Because the chassis in the front is very flat the diff has to sit well below to get any driveable up travel. In a factory solid axle lux the chassis arcs up a fair bit to allow the axle to sit under it nicely.
A SAS'd 4Runner will look awesome, but be very tall for it's width, so you'll need a lot of extra width for stability. Or it will end in tears like mine, and that was with the biggest offset 10" rims you could buy.

Ok not quite getting the response i was after. So i will ask some more specific questions.
Should I use the radius arms out of an 80, the original bundera or something else?
If anyone has done this conversion what springs did they use in the front end?
Are there any engineers who do this work in the newcastle area?
Body lift left in or taken out? My main reason for keeping body lift is to lift things above the bottom of the chasis rails ie feul tank.
How high will i need to go to run 35's safely?

All the info I could possibly give you in this thread here, have a read and then look for other members threads that have the info you might need.

Hey Struth thanks for the link nice work great build. I had read it before but have gone through it again. There are a few things that i want to do differently. Particularly i am leaning towards using landcruiser super flex arms. Couple of questions...
What springs did you use in the front?
what springs in the back?
do you radius arms bind up at all?
Why did you change the rear diff?

the most obvious question that should have been asked is what model 4runner as the early ones were solid front end so why cant you use one of them and put your running gear and body onto that no need for a SAS then

hey mitch,
i have a 93 4runner which had IFS.
i have done heaps to it. currently it has SAS front end out of a bundera, a 2 inch body lift, 5L V8 engine and lifted springs.
I used a bundera front end in mine (still having alot of issues getting the castor angle correct) you cant really re-use the stock bundera radius arm mounts (to chassis) - i did, but they are a fair bit of hassle and you will need to make drop boxes for them also and castor bushes to get them sitting in the right spot. i used 2 inch lifted bundera front coils with 80 series front shocks, my rear is 80 series stock coils and 100 series shocks. My rear setup, once you remove the sway bar has a ridiculous amount of flex (i do need to make longer control arms - which i will do one day). my 'equivalent' suspension lift is around 3 to 3 1/2 inches i believe but have not measured it next to a stock one. the front end doesn't flex that much at the moment, i am trying to work out how to get it to flex more, but the rear moves so much it doesn't matter too much. being only a 3-link front end the bundera setups will never flex as much in the front as the 5-link rear on 4runners. is yours a coil or leaf sprung model? i assume it's coil rear since i dont think they made IFS fronts for leaf sprung rears but i could be wrong. do the SAS - you will never look back - IFS SUCKS BALLS!
i did a build thread on my front end if u have a search around the forums you should be able to find it
P.S - chuck a 5L in there too for good measure
cheers, nath

ok i have the coil sprung rear ifs front and the reason i want to sas it so i got coils all round. i realise it will be a lot of work but that is half the fun.
nemisis was not saying that 2 inch would be enough, for what you want, he said that a 2+2 and offset rims was enough for 35s.
little confused if nemisis said he fit 35 2+2 with offset rims fit 35,s and sas is higher than that is what i want in a way cause i want 35's.
any way nathanshnoz i read your build thread a while back. i sent you a couple of pms about it. since then have been caught up in some shit thats why its been so loing.
it was because of the lack of flex you where gettin that i am thinking of trying 80series superflex arms? any feed back on theses would be appreciated. i agree the rear flexs like the governor of california. oh and yeah v8 is definatley on the christmas list although considering 3.8 v6.
nathansnoz did you end up getting it enginered?

What springs did you use in the front?
Standard 80 series
what springs in the back?
2" lifted 4 Runner with 30mm spacers, you could use standard 80 series but it would sit higher
do you radius arms bind up at all?
Not really the spacers in the camber plates help a lot, but the rear does all the work, so I am going to fit a full time sway bar
I put the 60 series diff in because the 4 Runner diff does not handle big loads and keeps crapping the axle bearings and seals. Also the 60s diff is heaps stronger, particularly for the V8.

2+2 +2" Balljoint spacers to fit 35's on a gen 2 4Runner, plus cut gaurds.Wambat wrote:nemisis was not saying that 2 inch would be enough, for what you want, he said that a 2+2 and offset rims was enough for 35s. but that if you want to go the sas way that it will be alot higher
A lowly set up SAS'd 4Runner would still be higher I think. That was my point.

hey Nemesis thanks mate thats what i wanted to hear.
Well i am a in NSW so what are the laws like in my state. any thing i should know about the regulations also any engineers in the newcastle region. I am not sure how to get in contact with one.
ok thanks struth for all that info.
well i know for sure that i am using a bundera front axle with ifs hubs.
so next question does anyone have any standard hieght 80 series springs they want to get rid of or 80 series shocks?
