just curious... with all the vacuum hoses in my 12HT, does anyone know how this works? is there something which blows air in the vacuum hoses or something like that?

Sucks air from vacuum hoses, not blows air into them.

Works just like a vacuum cleaner sucking air through the pipe. In the case of an engine it's usually to control the movement of a servo, such as the idle up for air conditioning or cold start. On a 12ht the vacuum pump is on the rear of the alternator.

The best example is the brake booster. by creating low pressure on one side of a diaphragm through vacuum, the higher atmospheric pressure on the opposite side assists in moving the master cylinder's rod/piston assembly.

Something to do with equalising pressure or the such. Kinda makes me wish I paid more attention in high school science.

These days most things are controlled by electricity. Mind you electric solenoids are not a new invention. An interesting fact, back in the early 19th century, london cabs were not alowed to have elecrtic windscreen wipers as they were deemed unreliable. Not too suprising though as Lucas electrics were around back then too ;)
