Who wants bits off my car?(not anymore)

Post by redrocket »

Seriously thinking about selling the car and downgrading to a sierra. Two reasons 1. Got a house now and need money for renos. 2. Got my insurance renewal and not happy with the situation or the value for money. So if you think that somthing might be useful to you then share your thoughts or ask a question.

This is not good news, Mike.

I presume you shopped around a bit, have you asked Insurance companies about how to reduce the premium? Security system, off-street instead of on-street parking etc? What if you insure at a lower value with salvage rights? (Won't help if the bus gets stolen...)

It p****s me no end that insurance is becoming so expensive :x - just tell me you haven't given in without a fight.

Hey Mike,

Hmmmmm... Sounds very familiar. Thats right, I sold my paj last year to do the same thing. ALL I CAN SAY IS DONT DO IT!

After looking at the sums of the event, I spent nearly everything I sold my paj for on the spook. Yeah sure it was pretty flash, but no where near as good as my old paj. Insurance on a stock suzuki is pretty cheap though. I had an agreed value policy on my spook ute, $10K, and it was $560 per year.

A little story about my experience last year.....

Bought the cheap suzuki for $2500.
Droped in a 1600 efi vitara donk $1200
New link aftermarket computer $1500
Pair of comfy front seats $500
Series 1 Rockhopper $990
Arb bullbar $600
Front and Rear airlockers $2600
King springs $600
Adjustable shocks $600
Body lift $200
Custom tray $600
Baja Claws $1600

Total cost - 13.5K

Cheap to start with......... Great truck... But LCMP is like driving to sydney..

I would just hate to see someone else make the same mistake i made last year. Yeah sure it was great fun, but the costs involved to build the capable truck werent worth losing the old paj for...

Oh yeah, I built a soft top in 2002 and it cost me similar dollars..... Was very quick but..........

As for insurance.....

My new paj has an agreed $30,000 policy. I have the arb bar, aftermarket alloy wheels, heavy duty suspension, high tensile body mounts, uhf, rear locker, spotlights and kenwood dvd player all on the policy. I pay $50.80 per month (about $650 per year) and thats with NRMA. I am covered on and offroad but nothing that is a timed event.. I am a 23 year old male with a rating one. This includes anyone who drives the vehicle too.

My other vehicle, proton satria Gti, is $900 per year. Its only 6 months old and is replaced with a new one in the first 2 years.

Ok people you can sigh in relief now. I found some insurance which is top notch thru dga. Good price of $750 for full cover of car and accesories for market value of car + market value of accesories and cause i turn 25 this year i only have the one excess of $350 yay. and i can pay montly yay. And all my modifications are allowed as long as they are dot approved and the vehicle is still registerable. I feel so much better now! Bring on the ifs bits frank. I bags the auto articulator! I have so many more plans for it now. The back seats are staying out and the draws are going in with a cargo barrier. rebuild of front diff and cv's with the detroit ;) This will be slow though cause of the above mentioned renos and a expensive knot. i am so happy now. grant is that wat you called your bodylift "hi tensile body mounts"?

mike.

p.s you can all reply to my question about the heads now.

Mike,

Because I didnt want the bodylift to go unmentioned, I called it "High tensile body mounts". It sounds heaps better and of course doesnt create the image of a big lifted truck. The minute you say its "lifted" they get all funny. Doesnt matter too much because its a legal modification anyway. Just sounds better.

Good to see you came to your senses.

LOL Alex, that is CRAZY. But I heard the cost of owning a big automobile like the monty is very very pricey over in europe.

New Jersey had the highest insurance in the us, not that I am bragging. :bad-words:
