Re: what would u pay for this vehicle?
I would think that a hilux engineered with 35's would be quite valuable, just the engineers certificate alone would double the value of a 84 hilux.TOY-08V wrote:its an 84 hilux dual cab with 73,000kms since ground up rebuild.

As rules toughen, some of the older cars whose owners where smart enough to get them engineered back when larger tyres were engineer-able will become very desirable and therefore command a higher price.
I say don't sell it, unless you need the bucks.
Peter.

Id say 7 to 10k ish, but thats only from what i've seen...
But i did find out the other day that apparently, and dont quote me on this as im still researching, but once these new laws come in, old engineers certificates dont mean squat, one of the boys on the wattos trip a few weeks back told me and the more i've looked into it the more it seems true as i've seen nothing to say differently just that over and over again
so either way, might be worth either talking to engineer to re-engineer to new guidelines... or sell soon while they're still valid
just my 2c
sounds like a sweet rig tho, got some bigger pics? keen at checking difference with bigger diffs in 84 model

Think your lucky Stu hasn't seen this, he'd be into you big time about the "big trips" you've done Why are you getting rid of it anyways??TOY-08V wrote:yeah brighty, i was thinking of doing that, just wasnt sure what i should ask for it, it would be a shame to get rid of it its been a tough and reliable truck and has done some pretty big trips in the past, and i'll miss the heads that it turns.

Yeah ELMO, Im a mechanic and i manage a workshop who specialise in 4wds (ARB stockist) and we too have this problem with poeple who come in and tell us that they heard this and that about all these rules and regs, which funny enough have been in the grape vine for over ten years that ive been a mechanic and not one of them has ever been changed.
And to pull all the cars off the road that have been engineered previously would result in TENS OF THOUSANDS of cars not only 4x4s but lowered cars, bussines trucks, FIRE, POLICE RESCUE, SES, ENERGY AUSTRALIA, etc,
AS ALL OF THESE VEHICLES ARE MODIFIED AN HAVE BEEN ENGINEERED FOR THEIR INDIVIDIAL USES.

I read it quite clearly. Myself personally would have stopped right there and not posted any more.Elmo wrote:Did you happen to read the line that said "apparently" and "dont quote me on this as im still researching"......
I'll give you a little help with your "research". All discussions between the RTA and the working party on the proposed draft are still being done confidentially. So there really isn't any info to go off at all.

Or are you just a little sensitive at the moment princess?
I agree with you 100%, and always have agreed with that line of thought that it is nothing more than rumours. As far as myself personally i haver never relied on these rumours, ever since i was 17 and had my first defect which resulted in my truck being de-registered and the loss of my license, everything i have ever done has been legitimately engineered and have spoke to the RTA, Registered Engineers and read and re-read the rules more times than i care to remember.TOY-08V wrote:Yeah ELMO, Im a mechanic and i manage a workshop who specialise in 4wds (ARB stockist) and we too have this problem with poeple who come in and tell us that they heard this and that about all these rules and regs, which funny enough have been in the grape vine for over ten years that ive been a mechanic and not one of them has ever been changed.

The only reason i even mentioned it was due a few reasons,
a: the sheer number of rumours about this lately is beyond comprehension and i was curious as to whether there was any validity to it
b: the positions in the industry of people from which some of the rumours were coming from, as they are the sort of people who you would think would actually know the truth... and
c: the widely publicised crackdown and tightening of the new laws that are to be introduced....
I never said any of it was gospel, i said this is what i heard, you might wanna look into it. I personally wish everyone would just stick to facts, which is why, like i said, im still looking into it myself so that my 2 current builds remain legal
