Hilux not starting... any ideas?

Post by collins110 »

Its cranking over, firing occasionally, shakes the whole car and is basically relying on the starter to keep it going. Same on LPG as Petrol, spark is there but weak. Replaced the coil, no difference. checked points look fine, checked leads they are all fine as well....

lol any ideas?

Replace the condenser, mate. Had exactly the same thing happen on my maverick, I replaced the condenser and fixed it. I've since pi$$ed the points off altogether and put pertronics electronic ignition in. Far better than points.

i ended up creating a wire from the battery to the coil to boost the spark and it got me started so i could drive it to the workshop where i can test the condenser and change the plugs

Your ballast resistor is that white ceramic block looking thing, usually beside your coil. You can bypass it but it will burn your points out quicker.
