Leaning Navara

Post by marcoz8 »

Hi there,
I just purchased a 03 Nissan Navara turbo diesel with 60k kms. Im very happy with it so far however have just realised that it appears to be sitting lower on the drivers side. Its on a lean!! Is my suspension buggered? Its at least an inch or more.

In addition, this is the first 4x4 ive had and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on where to go off road close to Sydney (Ryde) Nothing to extreme, easy to begin with.

Thanks
Marc

First off - i'd b checking obvious things like:

- Are all of your tyres pumped up to correct pressure?
- Is there any unevenly distributed weight on the drivers side? (its have to be HEAVY though :) )

Then i would check for bent chassis (not good, but i've seen a few IFS trucks cop big hits and bend on the front), then have a look at your torsion bars and see if there's any obvious damage or possibly an incorrectly installed bar.

One inch is a fair difference, especially considering that usually the drivers side is a fraction higher than the passenger side to compensate for driver weight.

also measure it off the chassis, make sue its not the body thats been put on wrong. fuel tank is also on drivers side so may lean more with full tank.

if everything checks out (no damage etc as per previous post) then measure it and see where the sag is. it could well be from the rear springs sagging. the rear springs are well know to be sag and could have sagged more on that side. plenty of repair options available such as new leaf packs or add a leaf.

plenty of info on http://www.navara.asia/forum.php

Not sure bout the IFS vehicle but some spring manufacurers actually make the drivers side springs longer than the passenger side. Maybe the springs have been put in the wrong side by accident.
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.

Measure the distance from the centre of the rim to bottom of wheel arch on both sides. adjust the torsion bars by tightening and loosening the (24mm nut from memory)at the back of the bars. make sure its not the other problems first. weight tyre pressure ect.

also make sure you check it on dead flat ground, as it will look out if the car is not sitting flat. my two cents
