Would take some serious power to blow a mog portel

Most i have seen breal thru research have been because of a landing force that puts to much strain on the portel and its forced to rip backwards ( hope yas know what i mean)

 I was going to post, but what is the point. I said you could not lift an axle, you went and lifted an empty housing........ You knew what I meant by the word "axle". Like I said before, to each their own. For ME, it makes too heavy an axle assembly for a light truck. You need to realize that where I live guys build big trucks, with serious axles and serious power. Guys that blow MOG boxes up for fun. This type of axle suits those sorts of trucks....

BUT, that is just MY personal preference. Nothing wrong with this axle and build.

The important issue is the weight of the mog centre and tubes vs the salisbury centre and tubes.

I have lifted a complete sals in the past (SIII drum braked) by myself.

I think we have established that if you were to build a money no object axle then you wouldn't use a sals. However...

I would love to see pics of these canadian rigs that "blow mog axles up for fun"???

Hi all,

there are very nice comparings of weights on here.
Some kg numbers would be fine and not who can lift what.

I think the Sals are ok but it would not be my unimportant choice.

Mercedes do mostly good work, so i think the 8 inch unimog diff can carry same load than the unimog portal box.

The idea is great to just use the portal boxes.
Maybe i would use Range Rover housings with Toyota centers.
Should be same amount of money to spend.

Thanks
Chris

Yes that would work but with the toyota centre you can only go a 30 spline at the centre end of the axel. There for reducing the axel down in size which would be a weak point. ( still strong as fark though)
With the salisbury centre we are able to go to a 35 spline dana there for the axel will be bigger along the whole length then that of a standed mog axel.
Keep in mind there will be no standed Rangie suspention links at all and will all be linked with Hymes. so housings are not a worry.
This is all being built with Tuff Truck in mind aswell guys.

Just out of interest has anyone seen the new style drop out LOW or HIGH ( in the same carrier) style D60s about to hit the market in the states.
Very sexy piece of Kit.

I'm on it. Waiting on custom beadlocks to arrive from RDF and for BUBS to maybe, hopefully one day have the disc-brake conversion ready.

They don't weigh that much.
Are you suggesting that I should have used my strong arm to lift it.

Oh well, this skinny bastard reckons they're heavy.
