ok so some shitbag kids ripped the coax outa my aerial the other day, and now im wiring it back up. but i have never wired an elevated feed aerial before.

i assume you run the coax up to the top and put the core into the hole in the middle of the tip, but im unsure on 1) how it stays there, and 2) where the shielding goes?

i THINK i know how it goes, but if anyone could tell me so i can confirm either way, that would be awesome :D

Different makes / models may well be different, but I'd guess the centre conductor will be soldered at the tip of the threaded section where the mast screws on, and the shield is probably folded back and clamped somehow.

Hopefully there will be some tell tale signs of cable when you pull it apart so you can see where the bits go.

yeah i hoped that i would find something stuck in there, but pulled it apart to find no evidence...

soldering? i dont think i could get the iron down to the hole without melting either the plastic surround or the insulation on the coax...

Post up a pic of what you have got.

On mine the centre core runs up the centre, but you solder it from the top of the threaded part, that the mast screws onto (has a hole through it, that in your case would be full of solder still).

Unbolt it from the car, clean out all the previou solder.

Then solder it on it's side just like you do the plug at the other end. You will see when all the old solder is gone the reduction in the top of the base.

Makes sense in my head as I type....

i was skeptical, and looking at it you wouldnt think so, but thats what it was!

whoever did it (factory i assume), smoothed the solder down perfectly on top, and due to age it had no shine at all, so it looked like a flat top. even looking closely at it i was certain it wasnt soldered... but, i thought id better give it a try and i scrapped a knife across it and low and behold, it was shiny! so now, all the solder is out and ill be putting the coax back in shortly!
