<Vic> Unlimited Quest Navigation Challenge 24th April

Post by Unlimited Industries »

The Unlimited Quest is an off-road event in which competitors are required to visit 13 Control Points scattered over approximately 350 square kms of rough terrain in the Angahook-Lorne State Park within a 10 hour period.

The tracks used are graded easy to medium difficulty level with the emphasis being on clever navigation rather than vehicle capability. There are other Quests held throughout the year of a more difficult standard for those teams wanting more of a challenge.

Teams are supplied with a 1:50,000 scale map of the state park, co-ordinates of the 13 Control Points and their Start position (at base camp). Each team must plot the Control Points on the map and decide their route.

Navigation is by compass/GPS and the winner is the team who visits the most controls in the shortest distance. The distance is measured using our supplied GPS data loggers, we down load the information when you return to base camp to determine the winner.

Rost dinner and camping is included in entry fee.

This Quest is limited to 10 teams.

Due to the accidental date clash with the On4ToU PURSUIT  , we were able to move it to the following weekend of Saturday the 24th of April, so we have.

Hope to see some of you there. :D

The online entry form is up, http://www.unlimitedindustries.com.au/unlimited-quest/

There's two parts so make sure both parts get filled out when entering.

3 Teams are already entered and we're only taking 10 so get in soon!

To add extra strategy into the event, there are bonus lines you have the option of taking to reduce you distance traveled if you have the time. The bonus lines are a good way to get back in the game if you've made a few errors during the day.

Competitors will be receiving updates via SMS during the comp on what control points other teams have reached just to keep the pressu

Yes. Was a good event, lots of ground covered, I liked the format of 1 car being a reconnaissance car and 1 car being a logging car, with the winner being the team that travels the least amount of km's to get to the most waypoints. The SMS updates of how teams were doing was great. Found a couple of good tracks that we will be visiting again.
We came third, but by bugger all. The team that came first was a single car team in a zook who knew the local tracks and had a state rogaining champion as the navi :) But that all just excuses to say we didn't win LOL
