85 single cab lux suspension - what to buy
im new to the 4x4 scene and have now come to realise im in need of a new suspension setup..
i currently have leaf springs... on the drivers side im assuming they are rooted or my shocks are as the drivers side sits a far bit lower than the passenger (this is how i got the car)..
i am thinking of replacing all my leaf springs and front and rear shocks...
my questions are..
1) While i am doing this should i replace anything else? eg - Lift kit etc..
2) What price am i roughly looking at? i saw on ebay i can get shocks and leaf springs for around the $500 mark..
3) Is there anywhere in Northern Subs of melb that i could maybe go to for more advice/products and installation..??
im sure i could chuck them in myself, ive done it on all my previous cars but like i said 4x4 is a new thing for me so im not all that confident in myself as of yet..

First of all, buy the repair manual for it, you can't go wrong and even someone with a wealth of hilux knowledge wont know everything there is to know about everything.
Can't go wrong if you check everything, and recheck everything a week after refitting it.
What are your goals, city gutter jumper, weekend warrior, or just a daily beach truck. all of the above a 2inch lift is perfect i say, looks better, its still legal, gives better clearance.
Prices depends on the product you buy.
What is your budget etc etc, theres a million questions.

basically i wanna go everywhere, the car will be daily driven, i want to go through mud, water, rough stuff eg rocks, hardernd mud, up gutters etc...
was looking at monroe shocks i found a set of fronts for $199 which is decent..
basically i was looking at spending
$300 on shocks
$300 on leaf springs
$200 on lift kit
that's according to what ive found on ebay so far.

ebay, automotive shops like supercheap, autobarn, repco, bursons etc.
Leaf springs and lift kit will be the same thing, unless you plan on running a body lift which i dont think is needed and it wouldn't be $200 for the body lift.
For eg, IMO, if you were to get 2inch lifted springs, i would get 4inch lifted shocks. That combo works well, giving 2inchs of extra down travel whilst some say it limits compression by 2inchs, to top out a shock on most leaf packs is not something that is done to often unless your travelling at speed and drop into a rut etc, and for that you extend the bumpstops, for example i had 1-2inchs of lift with 4inch lifted rancho rs5000 shocks and i found it worked well. Have a look around in the members section and check out some of the capable hiluxs and all your questions shall be answered without spending 1000's and still have an incapable pos.

berad is the man to listen to on this one i recon,
i say get a set of 2inch springs, brand news are ok, but i would tend to get 2nd hand as they are worn in already, u then play around with the pack (im sure u can find out how to make a pack on here somewhere) untill ur happy with it then get the measurment for ur shocks, move ur dif forward n u should be able to run 33s at least,
then maybe chuck a rear locker in there n ur set.

Definately fit them yourself. Leaf springs are one of the easiest things IMO.
x2 with most of what's been said. 2" second hand springs, and some decent, longer shocks. Should pull in under the $800.
-1 with using extended shackles alone to lift your rig. To get the 2" you will need 4" longer shackles, which will probably leave you with a sheit shackle angle, and handle like a wheelbarrow.

Don't listen to this, it's utter garbage. Extended shackles alone will only worsen, well.. holy sh*t dude, i would never let u near my lux lol, extended shackles are the worst unless u have rears up front or ifs rears, not to mension illegal
