Fj62 steering heavy? Steering box issue?

Post by craz3d »

Hey guys. Picked up my 60yesterday, on way home noticed that the steering was very heavy at low speeds, almost like there was no power steering at all. The ps fluid is full, there"re no leaks so why would it be happeneing? Rooted pump?

I know it's supposed to be better than that, I test drove an hj60 and the ps was so good I could turn the wheel at rest with my pinky.

Any ideas?

G'day craz3d,

Don't know if this helps but my son had a similar problem with his commodore... at start up and low speed steering felt wrong like as he turned the wheel the steering felt like it couldn't keep up..... we changed the power steering pump and the problem went away. our mechanic said the seals or diaphrams could of worn out... dont know if this was true, but after the pump change it felt like new.. half a little pinky to turn the wheel...

Hope this helps but as i said it was a common,dore.....
