Long Travel Shocks

Post by forbymad »

hey ive just done hi steer and flexy leafs and am now looking to upgrade my shocks so im after a bit of help with options.
who makes 10-14 inch(longer than standard) shocks with eye to eye?
i know rancho and bilstein do.
im not looking for bypass shocks or anything that fancy.
i had pro comps and was very happy with them so something similar to them would be good.
also any ideas on prices?
Thankyou

Sprung up, play nicely.
If it is, then hes trying to not advertise it, so can we let him be a forby nut like the rest of us, and not give him a hard time. Who knows, maybe, 2 bus rides have chilled him out into someone that can live on this forum.
After all, we put up with Bogged for so long
And to answer your question, if you were happy with the procomps, why not stay with them??
Im sorry Im not more help than that.

teal slacks racing?
i have not been a member of this website before and dont know hi-lux mad.

DUDELUX-the reason im not staying with pro comp is because they biggest shock they make is a 4''.
i need a 12-14 for the front and a 10-14 for the rear depending where i place the mounts.
thanks

If your not buttlux you must be his long lost twin.

Anyway, what do you mean they don't make longer than 4", maybe not for specific vehicle models they don't (ie. They don't have a shock specifically for 6" lift in a hilux) But if you have your fully extended and fully closed measurements they may have a shock that suits.

Sorry mate I can see you are going to get quite a few questions about hi_luxmad ... even from some mods.
Your question, style, location etc are remarkably similar to a user here in the past call Hi_luxmad even your Internet service provider is the same.

Now in answer to your question, most major manufacturers make a 12+ inch stroke shock, bilstein, pro comp, rancho, Koni etc etc etc ..

or PM suspensionstuff ( a member here) I am sure he can point you in the right direction with great advice and well priced gear to boot.

Read the link I posted, his alter ego said he didn't want to be spending $2000 on shocks.

In other words, he doesn't want to spend shit loads.

Yeah I see what you're saying mate, but what is the point of the bus ride if the person in question just keeps starting up new accounts and keeps asking the same stupid questions. If the mods wanted him back on the forum they would un-ban him i would think.

You need 18-22" shaft travel shocks?

Rancho and Bilstien can't help you.

Rancho stop at 16" (99036 part# from memory) I don't think bilstein exceed 16" either, and that won't be in an affordable shock.

I think you need to recalculate the length you really need.

who gives a shit springcruiser aka. sherlock holmes.

Yes forbymad flex it up the best you can and measure the mounts. If you're still having trouble finding a shock to fit your best option is to revise mounting points (tip; shocks straight up and down are more effective than inclined, but may limit the amount of wheel travel depending on design of your setup).

You say "10-14 inch(longer than standard)". Do you understand when a shock is advertised as 12", generally it has 12" of travel as opposed to a total length (collapsed or extended) of 12". So a 12" shock may have collapsed length (full compression) of 18" and extended length (full droop) of 30".

Geeezzz, sure buttlux aka hi_luxmad was a bit of a tosser, we all know that, he got a bus ride or two.
Get over it. Move on.
We are here to help out fellow 4wd owners get the most out of their 4wds, and to enjoy a common interest.
I cant really help this guy pick his shocks, but we better get back on track before this gets locked. Like most of buttluxes threads.

i also asked him about shocks and he didnt have an answer.hence why i am asking here.
ive known blake for years so there is a coincidence that we both know him.
blake is the one who told me to join because he said it was a good site.
already people have jumped to conclusions and said i should be banned!!
hopefully you can all see past this and get on with it.

gday stu

yes i need a 10-14 inch stroke shock depending on where i place my mounts.
the rears i can put wherever i want and make whatever angle i want so i should be ok with a 10 if its on the angle.
the fronts can only be mounted vertically but i have an inch or 2 to play with on shock hoop mounting.so id say i need a 12-14'' travel.

ill measure tomorrow n call around.
thanks

fair enough, haven't kept track of how many chances he'd been given and thought he might have cleaned up his act.

Or maybe even 5 times now. If one of his mates wants to pass this on tell him to not bother registering again. He has been given more than a couple of chances and he has screwed every one of them up. He is no longer welcome here. And I will ban him every time he is called out.
