MOVE OVER, HERE COMES ROVER!!!
Im going to put them on my old man's defender as he runs standard springs, so they work fine. 530mm extended, 310 compresed aprox 8 inches of travel. i need a shock aprox 600 mm extended with 10.5 inches of travel.... OME's N73 614mm ext, 354mm comp, 260mm travel or 10.5 inches. The konis are a awesome shock, just to short for me.

picked up the new front shocks today, heres a comparison pick between the OME N73 and my current toy 80 series Koni's. OME approx 3 inch longer. one thing i noticed was that the pins on the OME's are longer ( and thicker ) then the Koni's,this should give a little bit extra in the extd length of the shock.

Here's a pic of the N73's in place. note the amount of travel still left in the shock once the tower has been bolted down ( distance between spring hanger and bottom of unbolted tower in pic ). this is approx how much travel i expect to get out of the hoely bushes when there pressed in.
I was going to use spacers on the front towers but in doing so will only lift the shock up higher and limit down travel, so maybe i'll just space the bumpstops a bit and lose a litlle up travel.
Yeah i will have to lengthen brake lines as they are firm on full droop now and the hoely bushes aren't in yet.

Got my slotted bushes fitted a couple of weeks ago. haven't had the chance to try them off-road as yet, but going on a trip with the FRangie xclub in a couple of weeks, see how they go.
have the same prob with my Ranchos. Good shocks (once you run rubber bushes, not urethen which busted the bottom pins on both. Coverd under warranty thankfully!!), but too short. Need to fit 80- series one up front soon (need money!!!).

Trav

Land Rover- The Collingwood of 4WD's!!!!
My mate drives a toy 60 series, he was a bit reluctant at first but i persuaded him to do them. Still waiting on my big landrover logo stickers to be made though .
got another one for the windscreen that says... MOVE OVER, HERE COMES ROVER, but didn't wont to over do it.
toyota's are always trying to beat me at the lights ( most don't come close once the turbo's kicked in ) and it's caused the odd stint of road rage directed towards me more then once!! one guy in a stock new hilux almost ran me off the road and abused me as he overtook me, needless to say my bull bar was about an inch off his bumper for a good mile or more down the road.

just had 4 way make me a set of shocks for the rear, foam cell style. gives heaps rear travel now. fitted them this afternoon new lifted springs are to short now to stay retained so might just retain the top and make a cone for the bottom or buy taller softer springs. will post some photos soon for comparison,

Mate, if those Koni's measure what you've posted, they are Landy shocks.
80 Series Koni fronts, pt. # 82-2385, measure 617mm open, approx. 370mm closed
These are measured from the base of the pin, to the base of the pin.
I'll be able to give an exact closed measurement soon, as I'm re-building a set at the moment. At least when the parts turn up.
BTW, why can't I see any piccys ??
Rick.

rick the koni rears are 560 extd, 340 compressed. measured from center of eye to base ( body end ) of pin. these were on the vechicle when i brought it. was told they werent landie spec but im not sure. tried looking up the serial numbers but had no luck the tough dogs are approx 4 inches longer then the konis extd.

Those rears are a Range Rover/Disco/Def shock with different valving.
The sheet I have here says,
"alternative for rally and TT"
you got a race shock, but sounds like they use a standard body.
Those Tough Dogs wouldn't happen to be GQ/GU leaf rear shocks, would they ? I was using some generic things (All Pro or something) for a while that were those dimensions.
Nicked 'em off the GQ farm ute when the father-in-law wasn't looking.

not sure what there ment for. opposite lock rang the guy who makes them in NSW and he said he could special build a pair for me. he said that he had built this shock especially for the rear for about four other defenders. he told me this is the very best acheivable with out going all out and changing the shock mounts to suit say a 14 inch travel shock. i now need to place a 200mm block under my hi lift jack to just barely lift the wheel off the ground. the shocks dont have any serial numbers and just say " Special Build " on them. at the moment im realy happy with them.

g'day kane, i got mine through opposite lock in brisbane on the northside, 22 maud street, breakfast creek. cant remember off the top of my head their number. they contacted this guy who must be the rep or somthing and he told me this info, he said he would press standard rubber bushes into them as well instead of the poly ones to give a bit better flex.

hi kev, yeah its starting to get there, slowly. STILL waiting on my new rear trailing arms and coil spacers from Superior engineering. its been a while now will have to give him a ring. i havent extended my front brake lines yet so the new front N73 shock are still waiting to go in. once there in she should be all go. another thing i just did was put a straight through 2.5 inch exhaust on her. the improvement is noticed greatly. more torque and the turbo seems to spool up heaps quicker now too. she sound like a truck now. i havent got around to any of the fuel pump mods, im still abit ify on the idea but am going to look into it a bit further. ive got some before and after ramp shots that ill try and post soon to give you an idea of the set up now.
