Strange noise from my GU.
Strange noise from my GU.
I started to get a strange loud noise today from my 2005 GU. Only started today. A loud whine, that increases with road speed. A bit like a bearing or gear noise in my final drive. It really sounds like an aircraft running up before takeoff. I am having to turn my stereo up to drown it out.
Dunno what it could be. The only thing I have done today is put a set of JT2s on it.

Mud makes excellent toothpaste.
Haven't swapped out diff gears lately? I seen a landcruiser that had the bearing caps come loose on the carrier and the crown wheel was actually rubbing on the back of the housing. Stuffed the splash guards in the axle tube and r00ted the axle seals to boot.
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.
G'day Bundyrumandcoke,
I had a similar noise from my GU recently after a gentle trip off road. Coming home along the highway started to notice the noise. Up and down with speed. Pulled over to investigate and found the front still driven. Transfer case was in 2H, but hadn't reversed up enough ( or as I have found out since, reversed too much, as the auto hubs can re-engage in reverse ).
Hope this helps...

mate had a similar problem on my 80 series with the xtrek2s sounded as if the roller coaster at dream world was coming in to stop. Now all though a quick repair to rectify this problem it was a hard one via taking the 36s of and puttind the 31s back on. I know this will make your truck look soft but i think this is the only fix unless you can stay of road. iI hope this helps.
