1HDT + auto box and transfer case

is it in good shape? it's probably worth more than you think, and for that reason alone it's probably a good idea to keep it.
$5k as a starting point, but have a look at what wreckers are charging for a 1HD-T and you may want to ask for more. remember wreckers have to charge GST and they have to give a warranty so their prices are hedged accordingly. the A442 and the full time transfer aren't worth heaps but are worth something.
if you are after a reasonable power increase at reasonable cost, intercooling the 1HD-T and adding a free flowing exhaust (3" straight through as a starting point) can yield impressive results, with potentially improved fuel economy as a bonus when driven sedately.
conversion costs can spiral alarmingly, and there aren't a lot of "better" engines out there than the 1HD-T for the 80. if you go to a GM V8, you'd need to get the 6.5 turbo for a gain that will exceed the potential of the 1HD-T. add to the conversion cost the need for uprated front suspension, engineering, all those hidden extras, you will not get a lot of change for $15k. if you're going to go for a petrol V8, don't destroy a good turbo diesel 80 - sell it and buy a petrol engined model, then go nuts.

Re: 1HDT + auto box and transfer case
Mate, I'll swap you a complete VNSS with a good 304EFI and Auto (has some front damage) for your 1HDT and auto if you like. Will even pay for freight to Newcastle.richo_turbo60 wrote:hey guys looking at doing a convsersion in my 80 just wondering how much would l for selling my current engine tranny and transfer case
