Surf auto same as ?????

Post by brendan rooke »

Hey all,

Been doing some research on my cousins late 96 3 litre turbo intercooled auto surf.

Hes had transfer trouble (smashed).

On the toyodiy site, its showing the parado auto transfer has the same part number as the surf (36100).

Does anyone know anything about these autos and if the parado transfer will bolt straight up.

The parado looked at was a 2007 aswell compared to the 96 surf (same part number though)

Thanks

Rookie.

You just need a chain driven transfer, off any gearbox that is behind a W series gearbox and most R series box's.

How did he smash it.

Cheers for that mate,

He just engaged it and it wouldnt go, like he had no gears.

He limped it home but everytime he pulled up it wouldnt go again.

He had to perservere with it (in and out of gear) to get it to go.

Pulled it down and the transfer was a mess!!

I would guess yours is a KZN185 Surf which is dam near identical except for body shape to the early Playdo 90/95 series from what I have seen.
Check it properly as the later Paydo has the transfer front out put on the passenger side of the vehicle

Could be wrong but thought they are chain driven transfer.
The transfer has a diff in it for AWD, 4WD or 2WD ..... my guess is someone had it in the wrong gear and it went BANG.

The earlier hiluxes/4Runners/Surfs have the front output on the drivers side.
91' Hilux Surf with the usual mods & a few different ones ....
