There is always gearing to help counter this.Ricko wrote:The doors will fit.
If the 308 was used for drag racing it will likely operate best at peak revs, not ideal for 4x4 where low down torque is key. Just keep that in mind, you may be able to alter that with cam and carb changes.
Plus the 308s probably got around the same power down low as a 2F or if its real old F engine but the added bonus is peak power is alot higher.
Is the kit to suit a turbo pattern 308? is the 308 a turbo pattern?
Something else to think about, chevs are physically smaller in size and fit better between the guards than 308s. 308s still fit though.

doubtful, the F and 2F are torquey buggers. and the gearing options for toyota is pretty limitedORSM45 wrote:There is always gearing to help counter this.Ricko wrote:The doors will fit.

Check out http://www.marks4wd.com/ and http://www.rodshop.com.au/ and http://www.dellowconversions.com.au/ for an idea on price for new kits, then depending on condition you can decide if he's asking too much or not.Blacky88 wrote:thanks for the info guys, yeah the 308's cam will be changed aswell as going to injection for better fuel and towing, yes it is a turbo pattern dont no about the kit tho he couldnt tell me wether turbo or trimatic i will have to have a look me self, just wandering what the kit would be worth?
True. But 270Nm isnt that much to brag about either. I cant see a 308 being that much worse in performance. As std they make around 420Nm @ ~3000rpm, 1st low in the old boxes is pretty low. I usually only ever use it for down hill braking, and i dont think i need to idle anywhere up a hill where alot of torque is needed etc. If i were in 1st low 3000rpm would be ~15kmp/h. That = alot of torque is what i mean. More than a 2F. If you really need to, put in transfer gears or diff gears later on.bad_religion_au wrote:doubtful, the F and 2F are torquey buggers. and the gearing options for toyota is pretty limitedORSM45 wrote:There is always gearing to help counter this.Ricko wrote:The doors will fit.

Plus the weight you will save...
Just a bit of a thought.
PS. Blacky, That makes it alot easier to source as there are plenty of chev kits out there which all share the turbo pattern.

the only 308 that comes close to your claim makes 418@3600, and that's the VK group A one... F's make closer to 300... and my argument wasn't "don't go v8" my point was more that a drag motor should stay in a street car, and even a standard 308 would be a better choice than the drag motor...ORSM45 wrote:

on 36's, my lowrange first isn't anywhere near enough for any technical wheeling, and i'd much prefer to be able to start off lugging low rpm and build revs than have to dial up 3600rpm and dump the clutch on hills.

Valid point. Im not arguing anything just a few thoughts i had floating around. Alot of variables in this discussion too as you said tyre size and also torque curve of a modded engine. And also driving style/preferance.bad_religion_au wrote:the only 308 that comes close to your claim makes 418@3600, and that's the VK group A one... If it were me id just put it in as is still. then change what i dont like about it after driving it.
No probs. If the funds and room are available, Would it be good for spares, or you could take what you need and wreck the rest make some money back. Alternatively try some of the links provided. You can also get aftermarket doors, fibreglass etc. Not too sure on prices though.Blacky88 wrote: thanks orsm45, yeah found out he wants to get rid of the whole car for $2500, i only really want the doors and the 308 kit, spose i can sell the rest off, will have to have a look 1st wether turbo or trimatic pattern
