MQ needs grunt

Post by CB0569 »

A mate of mine has just bought a 1980 MQ LWB 4speed petrol. He hasnt got the net so i`ll be helping him.It is considerably more gutless than my SWB. He also on more of a bugget than what I am.Other than being tuned properly what other mods can be done to increase HP.There are some hills that he goes up he has to put it back to 2nd. He is running 31'' x 15'' x 10.5''.I have suggested a snorkel to help get the cooler air in but is ther anything else that he can do.I will be able to pass on all info that is suggested. Thanks heaps

Asuming that you are both running the L28 motors and there is that much of a difference in performance then most of the little bolt on mods like snorkels etc, are really a waste of time & money. I am also asuming that a Qualified mechanic has tuned the motor ?????????

In reality ya options are.....

Save up and rebuild the motor.... around a $1000 should get a good motor and be right for many years to come.

Save up and buy a good 2nd hand motor... ( rebuild the original for a spare).... contact "Screwyscrewball"... he did have 1 for sale...... I've seen good 2nd hand jobs for as little as $300.

Save up and fit a larger motor .... IE : a V8 :D If you do most of the conversion your selves then you'd be looking at around the $2000 mark..... double that and then some to get it done by a specialist !!
