Hi guys
just wondering 1st area to attack this problem, my truck is blowing black smoke on start up and and low revs/under load.
once comes up on boost the smoke clears away, or sitting up on constant speed its not blowing much.
just as soon as i try to power up a hill or something without changing back through the gears it puts out a fair bit of black smoke, a little to much for my liking.
it has just had a new diesel pump fitted before i purchased the car and im thinking 1st point would be to change injectors? any suggestions???

RD2.8td Blowing Black smoke
The 2.8's blow a bit. Don't worry about just drive it on boost and you'll have no smoke. Loading up diesels on hills in a high gear just creates heat. Mine is chipped and I thought it was rich but it is all good on the pyro and has been tuned like that. You could lean it out but you will sacrifice the small amount of power they have.
Ok, so i had the injectors done in it today. the pump was done just before i got the car and can tell it is actually new by looking at it.
the diesel mechanic did mention its possible it has a chip but he hadent looked to find it. (mentioned some reason people hide them to try not to void warrenty) he said if still blowing excessive black smoke in a week to take it back to him.
it is def only black smoke, but it is a little excessive, im not worried about it on start up, just when its loaded up going up hills etc. i feel bad for the cars behind me lol
the car does have plenty of power compared to quiet a few that i test drove before i brought this. any ideas on were to take it on GOLD COAST? ive had the injectors done by (GOLD COAST DIESEL SPECIALISTS)

White Smoke is unburnt diesel caused by:
Faulty or damaged injectors
Incorrect injection timing (could be a worn timing gear or damaged crankshaft keyway).
Low cylinder compression (eg caused by leaking or broken valves, piston ring sticking, cylinder and/or ring wear, or cylinder glaze)
Black Smoke is incorrect air/fuel ratio caused by:
Incorrect timing
Dirty or worn injectors
Over-fuelling
Faulty turbocharger (ie not enough air to match the fuel)
Incorrect valve clearance
Low cylinder compression (eg sticking piston rings or worn components)
Dirty air cleaner
Restricted induction system (eg system too small or kinked inlet piping)
Poor quality fuel
Excessive carbon build up in combustion and exhaust spaces
Cool operating temperatures
Blue smoke is Oil smoke caused by:
Worn valve guides or seals
Wear in power assemblies (ie cylinders, piston rings, ring grooves)
Cylinder glaze
Piston ring sticking
Incorrect grade of oil (eg oil too thin, and migrating past the rings)
Fuel dilution in the oil (oil thinned out with diesel)
