HZJ105 1hz cruiser glow plug light activating when driving??

Post by crunk81us »

I've done a search and found someone else with a similar fault but no fix as yet..

My glow plug light comes on when i rev the engine, even stopped and out of gear. comes on then times out. I've just had the fuel pump and injectors rebuilt, while the fuel cut solenoid was being replaced. I don't know of anything the mechanic did that would cause this.

Can anyone help shed some light on this?

I have looked at all the throttle linkages and cables that would have been moved/disconnected. Can't see any shorts or bad connections.

I am yet to put a meter on the plugs to see if they are actually powering up, and also going to try power down reset (d/c batt then reconnect)

any other ideas?[/i]

Not sure if this is the same issue, but myself (in Melb) and another HZJ105r owner (in NT) both had glow light come on and stay on after injector pump work. EAch of us eventually traced the problem to a vac line that had come off (due to a vac line plug broken off on one of the vac switches). Like popeye suggested, we first did a pin bridge and counted the flashes - with code indicating emissions system fault. I used the vac line diagram available on toyodiy to find the fault. (This is after I spent $250 getting an auto elec to check the vehicle over and not find anything!!).

Hope this info helps.

Ok, so I checked the plugs, they aren't coming on with the light.

I haven't done codes on this vehicle before,

what does the OBD plug look like?
which pins do I short out?
where might i find a reference for the code/flashes?

I've looked on scanguage and toyodiy and must be dumb because i cannot find what i'm looking for..

I feel it is probably a vacuum line/sensor so I'm going to have a better look at them.

just have a look at the pump or the intake manifold make sure all the hoses are connected.

I know the if the hose for the egr is left off it brings up the light.\

your going to need acsess to the manual for extracting the codes and what each code means.

There is very little / no ECU control on my 1HZ '98
Timer is about all and I wouldn't call that ECU

Later with EGR may be different.

Just had the exact same problem with my 105 hz. Had the injector pump rebuilt and when i went to pick it up, the glow plug light was on. I told the mechanic i didn't want it back till it was fixed. He had the car for another week, checking everything from electrics to vacum lines. It turned out to be the solenoid. Apparently, the original one was replaced with a single pin unit that caused this. All fixed now....

Got it in one. Apparently the EGR ECU also doubles as the glow plug controller too.
